Western Digital has a brand new hard drive for the masses - the 2.5″ Scorpio Blue that targets laptops. It measures a mere 9.5mm high and holds a whopping 500GB of data, which means it won’t run out of space anytime soon if you’re an average user. This $220 device is armed with 8MB cache and boasts a SATA 3Gbps transfer rate with 12-ms access. Western Digital reckons that the Scorpio Blue is one of the quietest 2.5″ models around, averaging 24dBA when idle and 26dBA when seeking. You can also opt for the slightly smaller 400GB model for $190.

Here’s more information about the upcoming BlackBerry Javelin from RIM. This device is targeted to replace the Curve, although it does seem to fall short in certain areas while making up ground in others. There is no 3G connectivity to begin with, so you’ll have to be content with EDGE speeds at best, but it will come with a 3.2 megapixel camera and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Vodafone branding on the smartphone places it in pole position to appear in Europe, but it might make its way to the US on T-Mobile as well.

Takara Tomy has released a brand new radio controlled helicopter known as the QFO, and from the looks of it, I seriously wonder how it is able to take off and hit the skies. The remote control itself is pretty cool looking and could possibly be mistaken as some sort of futuristic console controller with a few more buttons. Apparently, the QFO will come in a few colors to suit a wider range of tastes. Measuring a mere 65mm x 65mm x 43mm, the QFO will hit retail stores at the end of September.

The Ohm device targets cyclists, relying on magnets and a dynamo to store up power which can be used to juice up your portable electronics including cell phones and MP3 players. Ohm magnets are hooked up to bicycle wheel spokes, where the N42 neodymium magnets offer an optimal balance of durability and magnet strength. As the user cycles, the wheel spokes will turn and start inducing current in the Ohm which is subsequently stored in an internal 1200 mAh lithium ion battery. Once you’ve arrived at your destination, the Ohm can be removed and used to juice up your exhausted gadget. It takes around an hour of cycling to fully charge a cell phone.

Third time’s the charm I guess, and heaven knows Motorola needs as much divine intervention as possible to stem the bleeding tide from its cell phone business. Word has it Motorola is currently working on a new series of cell phones under the RAZR banner - the Motorola RAZR 3 Vxx. It seems as though the external display will use half a dozen customizable sensory elements that offer shortcuts to frequently used applications, running on Motorola’s own Ruby platform. The RAZR 3 is tipped for a Q1 release next year. Other speculation specifications include :-
