Microsoft Eases Up On HDD Restriction
September 4th, 2008
Good to hear that the boffins at Microsoft have eased the restriction of the standard specification for netbooks using the Windows XP operation system, doing away with the inital 80GB cap by replacing that figure with 160GB instead. This bodes well for netbook manufacturers, since 80GB isn’t that much by today’s standards (and have been that way for quite some time already). With this new policy in place, MSI has already rolled out a 160GB MSI Wind U100 that will retail for a shade under $600, while Asus’ 160GB Eee PC 1000H will be released with a $600 price tag thereabouts. Will this new relaxed restriction result in a slower growth for SSD-based netbooks?
