Assemble Your Own Pen

Assemble Your Own Pen

If you thought the point of buying things off the shelf was to make life easier for you, think again. If you’re really into DIY, the Falter 2D pen will surely make you work to have a functional pen. The “assembly kit” even comes with a flat piece of iron that you’ll fold into a pen holder, probably using the bundled tool to help you bend the metal. At $39, it’s said to be handmade in Italy, though it’s quite obvious that you’ll have to apply the finishing touches to the pen yourself.

USB Targus Mobile Data Transfer Cable

USB Targus Mobile Data Transfer Cable

With the USB Targus Mobile Data Transfer Cable, you will be able to transfer information and data from a computer to another directly, without having to rely on a USB flash drive, an external hard drive or even download files over a network. With this peripheral, file transfer is a snap, and good thing it isn’t thick enough to make itself a nuinsance whenever you are traveling. You can pick up the USB Targus Mobile Data Transfer Cable for approximately $40. Get this if you’re in the habit of transferring files between computers, otherwise an ordinary USB flash drive would suffice.

Epson announces its Artisan 800 printer, with a contextual touch-interface

Epson announces its Artisan 800 printer, with a contextual touch-interface

New printers are usually not exciting, but the contextual touch-interface of the Epson Artisan 800 has caught our attention. The touch panel is a 7.8″ surface that has fixed-function elements that can be turned on and off, depending on the context, to simplify the choices available to the user. In the middle of the 7.8″ panel, there is a 3.5″ LCD touch display that is fully programmable, making it contextual too. Usually, similar interfaces are usually found on much more expensive enterprise printers, but we like the idea of seeing programmable interfaces in consumer/small business printers as well. If you don’t want to pay for the touch-interface, there’s the Artisan 700.

Nokia N85 And N79 To Hit The UK

Nokia N85 And N79 To Hit The UK

Our friends across the Atlantic have it good, as Christmas arrives early with the Nokia N85 and N79 arriving tomorrow. The former will oust the N81 by featuring an upgraded camera (from two to five megapixels), GPS navigation as well as geotagging support, a 2.6″ AMOLED display and 28 hours of audio playback on a single charge. As for the N79, that will oust the N78 which was released just a few months ago. You will find a 5 megapixel camera (that seems to be the standard these days) with a dual-LED based flash, 3G connectivity, a microSDHC memory card slot, Wi-Fi support and GPS navigation to round off the list of features. Expect both handsets to roll out in the rest of Europe later.

Concept Wii Controllers

Concept Wii Controllers

While Nintendo has had a long history of releasing their best selling devices in a plethora of colors (think Game Boy and DS Lite), the best selling console of this generation, the Nintendo Wii takes after Henry Ford’s philosophy - we can have it in any color as long as it is white. While Nintendo has taken a small step in providing Wiimote straps of different colors, it would be nice to see the Big N do something more significant. Joe D! has decided to take matters into his own hands by coming up with wooden paneling on the Wiimote, Wii nunchuk and even the Wii Classic Controller. Nintendo suits, are you reading this?

Verizon Wireless Launches Blitz

Verizon Wireless Launches Blitz

If you have been waiting for the Blitz handset, your patience has paid off as Verizon Wireless is offering this phone as of today. The Blitz is, in essence, an UTStarcom handset, although it has been provided with the marketing muscle of Verizon Wireless. Some of the features on this vertical-slider include :-

QWERTY keyboardV CAST Music and Video supportBluetooth connectivity1.3 megapixel camera

I must stress that this is not a smartphone, so don’t expect to get a productivity boost on the road with this. You will be able to pick up the Blitz from Verizon Wireless on both postpay and prepaid accounts. It will retail for just $69.99 if you sign up for a new two-year agreement.

Japanese Fitting Room

Japanese Fitting Room

School girls in Japan look like they live rather interesting lives. If they’re not fond of the general public toilets, they’re welcome to try Cosplayrooms, which are basically tiny dressing rooms, located at the Shibuya district. The dressing room comes complete with free WiFi, beauty supplies and a non-alcoholic beverage. 30 mins of the phone will be around $5 to $6, which isn’t all that bad.

BlueAnt Voice Controlled Bluetooth Headset

BlueAnt Voice Controlled Bluetooth Headset

While most Bluetooth headphones are able to accept voice dialing, the BlueAnt Wireless V1 takes things one step further and allows for full voice control over the headset. Instead of trying to fiddle with the headset, users will be able to control functions of the headset such as “redial”, “call back”, “answer”, along with connection status, volume and pairing etc. The headset isn’t exactly cheap at $129.95 for 5 hours of talk-time or 200 hours of standby time, but if you’re into voice commands, this one will certainly be of interest to you.

Apparent Canon Leaked Image

Apparent Canon Leaked Image

What you see here might not be the real deal as it could be doctored or conjured up shots of upcoming Canon digital cameras, but at least there is a brief description attached to all four models as stated below.

A1000IS: 10 megapixel, 4x optical zoom, 2.5″ LCD displayA2000IS: 10 megapixel, 6x optical zoom, 3″ LCD displaySX110IS: 9 megapixel, 10x optical zoom, 3″ LCD displayE1: 10 megapixel, 4x optical zoom, 2.5″ LCD display

A common feature among all four cameras are Face Detection and Digic III processors. As always, all Canon cameras with the “IS” suffix would mean the addition of image stabilization.

CVT Multimedia Center Dock

CVT Multimedia Center Dock

At long last, a speaker dock that doesn’t have the “i” prefix in it to indicate it’s preference for the iPod family. The CVT Multimedia Center, however, caters to both iPods and iPhones with a fervor. It comes with a remote control that allows you to go through your stored tracks that are displayed on the blue LCD screen, but judging by my past experience with devices that have blue screens, staring at them for a wee bit too long stings the eyes. Other features include :-

3.5″ blue LCD displayTouch control panelAlarm and snooze functioniPod/iPhone chargerUSB, Aux in and AV outSD memory card readerIntegrated FM radio

Audio is pumped out via two speakers which are accompanied by an equal number of tweeters. The CVT Multimedia Center will retail for $99.50.
