Don’t you just love America? You can virtually sue anyone, and the same has applied to Apple’s well documented problems concerning poor reception with their iPhone 3G. An Alabama woman has already filed a class-action lawsuit against the fruit-inspired company, where despite advertisements touting the new iPhone 3G being ‘twice as fast for half the price’, the Internet connection she was getting with her iPhone 3G proved otherwise and worked “slower than expected and advertised,” according to the suit. The suit has 100 class members at the very least, and they are seeking damages of over $5 million, along with a replacement for the iPhone 3G if it cannot be repaired.

There is a distinct possibility that Apple will be offering external Serial ATA (eSATA) storage to its entire Mac line up after details from a patent filing were revealed. This application also touches on an external computer accessing this storage via a switching mechanism, where holding a key on startup or toggling a hardware control on the host computer itself will result in a low-power mode where its internal storage is made available, being the same as if an external drive were hooked up to the system. This is very similar to Apple’s Firewire Target Disk Mode.

Next week, we are going to stop by NVISION to check on what’s new with NVIDIA and may be we’ll find out if the crazy X86 NVIDIA CPU rumors are true or completely fake (we’ve been hearing that since 2006…). Anyhow, if you think of going, you might want to check the Demoscene section called NVSCENE. The “demoscene” is a group of passionate individuals who program real time “demos” with sometimes astonishing technical constraints, like limited size of 64KB, 4KB or even full games (think Tetris) in 256 BYTES (yes, bytes). I have a particular bias for this event because I started in the industry as a “coder” in the demoscene. Most demoscene events happen in Europe, so this is a rare opportunity to see this talented bunch and their work in the U.S

Radius gets all natural with their new wood SP-WMF11E speaker along with a pair of wooden earphones. The former will providean output power of 1 Watt and comes with a 3.5mm stereo mini-plug as well as a USB port (2.0 presumably) for you to juice up its battery. As for the wooden earphones, those consist of the HP-WHF11M and HP-WCF11M that share neodymium drivers. The HP-WHF11M has a frequency response of 25Hz-19,000Hz, a sound pressure level of 97dB/mW, and an impedance of 28? while the lesser HP-WCF11M provides a frequency response of 18Hz-21,000Hz, a pressure level of 94dB/mW and an impedance of 16?.

This X10 GPS watch from Suunto is said to be a significant upgrade from the X9i. Suunto claims that it has better battery life and a better GPS reception that makes the X10 capable of computing your position, even in dense foliage (or high-rise buildings?). It is most useful to record the route that you took during a trip/trek, but it can also be used as an altimeter, digital compass, thermometer and barometer if you ever need to.

It might seem weird to come out with a standard-definition (SD) camcorder, but this one is no ordinary camcorder: while most have a 10X optical zoom, Samsung has managed to put a 34X optical zoom in the MX20 (we mentioned this camcorder when Samsung showed its new Camcorder platform). We have not seen what it can do in the real world, but this is impressive on paper. If you are mainly creating web videos, trading HD resolution for optical zoom might not be so bad, although one has to wonder why Samsung could not integrate both – let me guess: cost.

Skipping the “leaks and rumors” part of a device life cycle, the Samsung BD-P2550 just showed up on BestBuy.com. It is positioned as a high-end player with supposedly good video scaling capabilities, Dolby TrueHD (7.1 channel), upgradable firmware (via USB or Ethernet). If you are really looking for these features, take a look. Personally, I’d rather buy a PS3, which is still considered as one of the best Blu-Ray player out there and it has movie rentals/downloads. Did I mention games?

TMDisplay has just unveiled the 2.2″ OLED panel that manages to squeeze out QVGA quality graphics with a lifetime of 60,000 hours (more than enough to last you until the device it comes with is long outdated) and sips just 100mW of juice when in use. This tiny OLED panel will enter production from March 2009 onwards, targeting handsets primarily along with other mobile devices. I would say smaller portable media players will be a huge chunk of the market as well. TMDisplay has yet to decide the scale of production as at press time.
