Buffalo’s latest external DVD Super-Multi Drive, the DSM-SL20U2 not only allows you to enjoy your handsome collection of DVDs which you have amassed over the years, it also boasts the option to upscale DVD content to 1080p. Of course, the results won’t be as stunning as an actual Blu-ray movie itself, but it ought to be better than your regular DVD experience, although it remains to be seen whether the upscaling algorithm is up to the task or not. Other than that, the DSM-SL20U2 is capable of burningDVD±R at 20x, DVD+RW at 8x and DVD-RAM at 12x. Expect to fork out around €85 for the DSM-SL20U2 as it hits retail stores in Japan at the end of this month.

DIY USB Cooking Pan - video powered by Metacafe
It’s really amazing what man can achieve with the humble USB port. This time, somebody with probably a little too much time on his hands has created a USB cooking pan that can fry eggs. Though this certainly won’t be used in restaurants anytime soon as a “green initiative”, it’s still cool to know that we can fry eggs in the office. Enjoy the video.

Asustek will have two Eee PCs under the Ultimate section, and these will be known as the S101 and S91. These high end devices will feature high quality parts (hmm, does that mean the other lower end Eee PCs use sub-standard components?) and boast an extremely slim design (as though they aren’t already slim and light enough in the first place). Don’t expect beauty and performance in a single package to come cheap though - word has it the Ultimate models won’t retail for anything less than the $650 mark, with a very real possibility of surpassing even the $900 barrier for some models.

It’s a firm belief of many people that gadgets are created to make us lazier, and this latest automatic hot dog grill roller serves as a reminder that said theory might just be right. This nifty hot dog roller will automatically roll the hot dogs for you, without you having to worry about getting one side burnt, though if you do manage to get it burnt, they’ll probably all be (evenly) burnt anyways. Powered by 4 AA batteries, this tool-for-the-lazy will set you back $39.95.

Word has it that Apple might be prepping new Cinema Displays to debut at next year’s Macworld conference in January. These same rumors also reveal that the new range of Cinema Displays won’t rely on cold cathode fluorescent backlights (CCFLs) but lean towards LED backlights instead, showing Apple’s effort to help keep the environment green by getting rid of mercury while the situation remains “technically and economically feasible.” What do you think? If this rumor were to be true, you have less than half a year to start saving up.

While there have been many innovations in terms of gadgets over the past few years (or months), we can’t escape the fact that some gadgets are downright weird. This blue hair dryer headset was probably designed for people who were embarrassed to look like they were talking to themselves when they were using a standard Bluetooth hands free kit. If you’re intent on making yourself look like a nut job, it’s going for just $7.59 at DealExtreme.
