Windows Mobile Licenses up 80%

Windows Mobile Licenses up 80%

Microsoft might not be in the spotlight with Windows Mobile these days, but it doesn’t mean that they can’t sell licenses. In fact Windows Mobile has shown a growth of 81% when compared to last year and it is likely going to continue growing. And sure, Windows Mobile is a little slow and not finger friendly and most devices still have a 320×240, but it’s not like phone makers like HTC (site) have tons of choices: Android isn’t ready yet, is cheaper for enterprises than Blackberry and Symbian is interesting but not so enterprise friendly. Also, Windows Mobile is supported by awesome designs from HTC or recently Sony Ericsson (XPERIA). To be honest I have good memories from my Samsung Blackjack.

Sony PMX-M80 Portable Media Player

I wonder whether Sony’s entry into China’s portable media player (PMP) market has anything to do with diversifying their portfolio, as you won’t be able to find the PMX-M80 anywhere else. Some of the features found on this PMP include :-

Map browser suite 4.3″ 480 × 272 resolution display16GB internal memorySRS 3D audioSupport for MP4, AVI, WMA, MP3, and AAC formatsBuilt-in microphoneMemory Stick slot

Sony has priced the PMX-M80 at approximately $331.

Sony Ericsson r306a hits the FCC

Sony Ericsson r306a hits the FCC

Sony Ericsson’s r306a clamshell cell phone has just hit the FCC, and some leaked information includes essentials such as tri-band 850/1800/1900 radios, Bluetooth connectivity, a built-in FM/AM radio (most other handsets just have FM radio), external radio presets and channel changing controls. Oh yeah, it also has a camera of unknown megapixel count albeit with the ability to record video - I’m going with 2 megapixels on this one. Other than that, information is scant and I still have no idea which network the Sony Ericsosn r306a is going to appear on.

Hello Kitty Body Composition Meter

Hello Kitty Body Composition Meter

Granted, you will find the Hello Kitty brand plastered on this red body composition meter device, but it is still manufactured by Toshiba and known as the SCF-20 where model numbers are concerned. The Hello Kitty Body Composition Meter is able to get a reading of the following after you stand on it properly :-

Body weightBody fat percentageBMIBody moistureMetabolic rateEstimated amount of bone and visceral fat percentage

All that data can be transferred over to a computer via USB, where you will be able to make an analysis of your body to take the necessary steps in combating flab and other unwanted physical excess. The Hello Kitty Body Composition Meter will retail for approximately $120 and is powered by a quartet of AA batteries.

Plica Phone Concept

Plica Phone Concept

Move over, iPhone 3G. Should the Plica phone concept actually be realized, it will surely overtake the iPhone’s popularity in no time thanks to a dual screen display (hello, DS Lite!). One of those screens is a touch screen keyboard while the other functions as a touch monitor. You can also choose to view an entire web page on a single display or have them spread out across both. It would be interesting to see what kind of battery life the Plica offers, and will it boast even more functionality to rival that of a netbook? Hopefully designer James Piatt’s idea will hit a chord with a hardware manufacturer somewhere and actually roll off production lines.

LEGO Lamps To Light Up Your Day

LEGO Lamps To Light Up Your Day

It’s amazing how some simple things can be turned into cool geek products. This latest desk lamp designed by Japan’s 25togo looks very much like an oversized LEGO block. The top of the blocks have a snap-off top layer that can hold pens, pencils and whatever else that will fit inside it. The bricks are measured at 6” x 4” x 2.4”, which makes them quite a bit bigger than the standard LEGO block. It’d be interesting to see if anything can be actually built out of these lamps, perhaps an illuminated Christmas tree? The only downer is that these lamps are only available through 25togo’s online store, and are going for about $15 each.

Sony laptop to feature reboot-less switching between Intel and NVIDIA GPU

Sony laptop to feature reboot-less switching between Intel and NVIDIA GPU

Sony is said to be among the first manufacturer to take advantage of Centrino 2’s ability to switch between graphics chips with its Vaio Z570. Back in the days, “thin & light” (<4lbs) laptop users complained about having to choose between a decent graphics chip and a better battery life. The solution was to make manually switchable graphics: the user had to physically move a switch, and then reboot to use a different graphics chip. As we covered during the Centrino 2 launch, things ate getting better: the system can now switch between integrated (low power) and discrete (high performance) graphics without rebooting. This is indeed a huge progress, as most people would not reboot, unless they direly needed more battery life.

Hello Kitty Shake Music Free G68 Phone

Hello Kitty Shake Music Free G68 Phone

Hello Kitty is back to torture us even more with the Shake Music Free G68 phone. As the name implies, it will feature some sort of built-in accelerometer that allows you to skip songs simply by shaking it in a certain direction - definitely not the first of its kind to do so, and won’t be the last, either. The Hello Kitty G68 handset will come with a 1 megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity, MP3 playback and a touch screen display. Each $120 purchase comes with a Hello Kitty carrying case, with the handset available in green or pink colors.

Biometric Fingerprint Encrypted Mouse

Biometric Fingerprint Encrypted Mouse

Worried about people accessing your computer when you’re not around? The Biometric Fingerprint Encrypted Mouse might just solve your problem. This mouse has a couple of security features, such as PC-Lock, Web bank, Virtual Disk, and File encryption/decryption. Said features would be able to prevent users from using the computer when you’re not around, remember personal data such as passwords, hide sensitive files, and also encrypt files. The mouse will be going for $116, which isn’t too high a price to pay for security, though it’d be interesting to see what would happen if someone nicked the mouse.
