Fish and Turtle Robots

Fish and Turtle Robots

Don’t you think that these tiny robots from CrabFu are just absolutely adorable? Constructed from spare and leftover remote controlled aircraft parts, they move in a really creepy manner. His most recent creations are a turtle and a fish which while aren’t edible, they make for a really cool desktop toy.

Lenovo jumps on the NetTop wagon

Lenovo to jump on the NetTop train

Lenovo is well-known for its slim ThinkPad X300, but now the Chinese company is preparing itself t launch a low-cost laptop similar to the Asus Eee that started it all. Usual contract manufacturers are probably in-line to get this contract. This is not a rumor, Lenovo has confirmed this itself: “the company is considering launching a netbook product designed with consideration for both consumer and enterprise markets” (Ken Wong, general manager of Lenovo Taiwan). That’s great, with even more players coming in, I think that we might reach a $100 NetTop even faster.

Peak Starpex Guitar Controller

Peak Starpex Guitar Controller

Ok, I think game peripheral manufacturers are taking things a wee bit too far with the Peak Starpex guitar controller being the most realistic Guitar Hero controller just yet. This hardware won’t see the use of cheap plastics, but will be built according to the same scale while using similar material as found in a real guitar, providing you with the most realistic Guitar Hero experience possible. After all’s said and done, it still doesn’t measure up to playing an actual guitar, as you won’t be able to serenade any ladies with your knowledge of Guitar Hero. The Peak Starpex will retail for $179.95 when it is available sometime later next month, and is compatible with Rock Band as well.

PC MicroWorks Edge Gaming Laptop

PC MicroWorks Edge Gaming Laptop

PC MicroWorks wants to set the record straight by claiming that its Edge gaming laptop is the most powerful in the world, but I would take that pitch with a grain of salt. Check out the specifications below and judge for yourself :-

Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad Core QX9300 (2.53GHz) Processor 8GB Ultra Speed DDR3 1333MHz Memory 500GB HDD or 128GB SSD NVIDIA Geforce 9800M GT graphics with 512MB DDR3 memory Blu-ray drive 15.4″ HD WUXGA 1920 x1200 Crystal-View X-treme Bright LCD 8 Channel Advanced SRS WOW Surround Sound System Wireless a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, optional EV-DO, GPS TV Tuner Finger Print Reader Windows Vista Ultimate

Prices start from $2,634 upwards, and if you think you must get your high-end gaming no matter where you are, the top-of-the-line configuration will cost you a pocket-burning $6,659 thereabouts.

Trimble Nomad gets pistol whipped…er pistol gripped

Nomad’s new pistol grip, which attaches directly to the bottom of the Nomad handheld with four screws looks to make in-the-field bar-code scanning point and shoot. The black rubber overmolding provides a cushioned, lightweight grip, and the trigger is built to accommodate a variety of hand sizes. Note the attached lanyard to help prevent drops for all you butter fingers. The Nomad’s new love grip doesn’t compromise that sexy ruggedness. The new grip maintains an IP67 rating agianst dust and moisture, and it still meets those stringent MIL-STD-810F military standards for drops, vibration and temperature extremes…splendid. In addition, the Nomad retains its all-day usage of eight hours on a battery charge, offers a range of compatible battery options, delivers a rate of up to three scans per second and offers easy field-to-office connectivity. See our previous review of the Recon X Series. The new pistol grip has a suggested retail price of US$109 and is available through Nomad dealers. Meridian 810 Projector

Meridian 810 Projector

If you think you’ve got a top notch projector in your home, chances are you haven’t stumbled upon the Meridian 810 projector. Touted to be the Reference Video System, it features specially calibrated JVC D-ILA light engine panels that are capable of throwing a resolution of 4,096 x 2,400 - that translates to 10 megapixels. Now that’s a whole lot of pixels by any standards, but it doesn’t justify the jaw-dropping $185,000 price tag. The 10 megapixel number is achieved by stitching a quartet of 1080p scalers together with DVI connections, cranking up digital sources (480i to 1080p) up to a full 10 megapixels. Truly mind blowing stuff.

Tomy R2-D2 Goes Transparent

Tomy R2-D2 Goes Transparent

I wonder what’s the rationale behind Tomy to manufacture a transparent, radio-controlled R2-D2? Well, it is Star Wars merchandise nontheless and will probably find its fair share of buyers, but perhaps Tomy has run out of blue, white and red paint at their manufacturing plant? Anyways, I suppose no harm is done if you decide to paint this by yourself. The included lightsaber is actually the remote control that allows you to move R2-D2 according to your whims and fancies. Retailing for an affordabel $24.99, this will make a decent desktop toy at home and at the office.

Army To Get MMOG

Army To Get MMOG

I don’t doubt that there are good people in our Army right now who do have a World of Warcraft account, and these are the folk who will take kindly to the suggestion that a senior Army game-designer is mulling over the idea of developing a Massive Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) that will be used to train Army personnel. This MMOG will be made accessible to soldiers throughout the world, helping them train in whatever environment, virtually. It remains to be seen how long will it take for a project like this to take off, but if it helps keep our children who are out in the battlefield stay alive through their tour of duty, I’m all for it.
