China, going all out to improve itself before the world fixes its eyes on Beijing has chosen to create its own digital TV standard called CMMB and RAmos has come up with a PMP to take advantage of the situation, and just in time for the 2008 Olympics. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about this PMP other than that it can understand CMMB, so screen size, internal storage and even the price are anybody’s guess. Though after the Olympics, you might be left with a partially useless PMP.

Fans of the Lego Technic line will definitely find this new two-seat off-roader to be a worthwhile pursuit, since it is powered by realistic-looking a V8 engine (scaled down, of course). Perfect for kids who are looking forward to grow up and being a mechanical engineer of sorts. Features include an integrated motorized Power Functions to raise and lower its ground clearance, operate the front-mounted winch or turn on the LED headlights. In addition, you will also get the benefit of stylish hydraulic gull-wing doors, opening trunk and hatch, motorized suspension to raise and lower the truck and a working steering system. Watch out for the Lego Technic Off Roader from next month onwards for approximately £90.

And you thought that LCD displays are meant to show off images in stunning color and detail only - Recruit Co. Ltd. from Japan is currently rolling advertising videos for the cafes and restaurants in the underground mall of Tokyo Station by utilizing the new Scent-emitting LCD Display System. This system will not only display the relevant images and video, but also co-ordinates that with appetizing aromas that complement the current advertising. All videos are shown on a 42″ LCD display, and there is a coupon book which can be used at restaurants which have advertised using this system. Man, guess taking a walk in the underground mall there will be an even hungrier experience if you’ve arrived there without eating something prior.

Fans of the Blackberry Bold will have to wait a little bit longer as the smartphone’s release has just been delayed on both Rogers and AT&T, although the latter’s delay is much longer compared to Roger’s date which was pushed from July 25 to July 29 (which is tomorrow, btw). AT&T subscribers will have to wait until the middle of next month though, and the handset will only hit retail stores somewhere around September 1. Telstra in Australia has just announced that the Bold will make its debut in that corner of the world at the end of September. They say good things come to those who wait, but waiting can be a real pain at times if you’re the impatient type.

You might have heard about it before, but NVIDIA has had some problem with defective chips recently and at Dell, up to ten different models carry potentially defective Nvidia GPUs. Previously, HP laptops were also reportedly using these chips as well, which is not a surprise given that they all come from the same pool. At this point, it’s not very clear how many laptops are affected and what the precise cause is (other than “overheating”), but just this morning, I had a friend telling me how his Asus G1S (GeForce 8600M GT) fried. It was fortunately replaced by Asus without any further problems. Dell has issued a patch to alliviate the problem, but it seems to do little more than cranking up the fan speed, making more noise at the same time.

Here’s a painting method that they don’t’ teach at school. English artist Ian Cook does his painting with remote control cars of various sizes. He dips them into acrylic paint, and controls them to create his masterpieces. He calls it “Popbang Colur”. His latest work is a painting of a new Camaro, which was painted using remote control cars of General Motors vehicles. It’s currently on display at the British International Motor Show, and Cook himself will be doing a live demonstration by painting a Chevrolet Lacetti World Touring Car on August 3rd.

iD Software supremo John Carmack has leaked information that his company is working on something very special for the iPhone, and it won’t have anything to do with Doom this time round. Carmack was pretty disappointed that his team’s efforts could not be ready in time for the App Store launch, but rest assured the final product will by a “graphical tour de force”, according to the man himself. Could Carmack’s ability to code superior games on the iPhone signal the death knell for Nintendo’s DS Lite and Sony’s PSP? I don’t think so - not yet, anyway.

Sharp has a couple of new generation electronic dictionaries known as the Brain PW-AC880 and PW-AC830, for obvious reasons. Both of them will come with an LCD display at HVGA (480 x 320) resolution and 5 colors. The whole idea behind a mere 5 colors is to justify the 80-hour battery life - after all, how many different colors do you need to read your text in? Other features found on both devices include 100MB of internal memory, an SD memory card slot, a handwriting pad and a photo viewer. Won’t see these outside of Japan methinks.
