Nokia N810 Price Drops to $299

Nokia N810 Price Drops to $299

CompUSA has made the Nokia N810 all the more affordable by dropping its price to $299. That’s not too shabby a figure to exchange for a 800 x 480 resolution display with a web browser, Flash support, Skype capability, e-mail and chat compatibility, multimedia playback and a GPS navigation system. Hopefully this discount won’t be limited to just the US but other parts of the world as well. After all, it’d be pretty cool to get one of these now and try to run Windows 3.1 on it.

The pedometer’s definitely a boon if you’re a big fan of walking around, and the built-in Health Diary helps you keep track of your daily travels. There is also a pulsimeter that measures you pulse by capturing blood vessel movements in the shadows, relying on a dedicated algorithm to come up with the final pulse rate.

T-Mobile Sidekick Leaked

T-Mobile Sidekick Leaked

There will be a new Sidekick device in the market from T-Mobile known as Gekko, and this entry-level model ought to see some improvements that made the original Sidekick hugely popular with the masses when it was released. This GSM device won’t support 3G connectivity, stopping at EDGE. It will feature a 2.6″ widescreen QVGA display, a full QWERTY keyboard, a 2 megapixel camera and stereo Bluetooth connectivity for wireless freedom. It will also boast removable shells for that greater level of customization, and it remains to be seen whether users can create their own shells or not with a template. Hopefully the new Sidekick Gekko will maintain the current sub-$200 price tag with a service contract when released.

iPhone 3G in short supply-could last a month

According to Gene Munster from Pipe Jaffray, the iPhone 3G is estimated to be in short supply until mid-August. Munster said that he’ll wager “we’ll see problems for another two to four weeks,” adding, “early demand has been more than [Apple] expected and checking with Apple’s own supply tool, it can be seen that Apple is quickly running out of units to put on their shelves with the hardest model to find being the black 16GB version.

Wii Outsells Xbox 360 in US

Wii Outsells Xbox 360 in US

The Microsoft Xbox 360 has just lost its overall best-selling console position in the US to the Nintendo Wii, with 10.9 Wiis shifting since it was introduced in November a couple of years ago. This is pretty amazing, and it doesn’t look as though the Wii juggernaut will be slowing down anytime soon. Sony takes second place this time round, mainly due to the release of Metal Gear Solid 4 that saw it shift 405,500 PS3s compared to the Xbox 360 which sold for slightly more than half the PS3’s total this June. Great to see a more balanced spread of hardware this time round, meaning that all of them can co-exist peacefully with one another, offering quality entertainment no matter the platform.

Plant Waste Turned Into Energy

Plant Waste Turned Into Energy

In this world where going green is the in thing, how about this method that involves getting power from waste parts of the cassava plant? You might be more familiar with tapioca as the common name though, and thanks to the efforts of Nigerian engineer Dr. Joseph Adelegan, this devised method collects cassava waste which in turn is transformed into a biogas that generates electricity as they turn small turbines. The electricity produced will be enough for basic needs such as lighting and low-powered electronics, although heavy duty usage like your Xbox 360 and refrigerator will still require the services of a grid.

Cisco Field To Get Touchscreens

Cisco Field To Get Touchscreens

The builders of the Cisco Field stadium for the Oakland A’s are considering adding interactive touchscreens to every seat. The goal will be to provide useful and interesting information to spectators. Users could access players’ stats right from their seat, and can get even practical information such as the driving routes out of the park. Other uses might include real-time information and services, such as finding out where the shortest bathroom lines are, and ordering some food and drink. Of course, the builders will have to take into account the possibility of vandalism, but that’s obviously part of their job.
