Sony Ericsson to Release W302

Sony Ericsson to Release W302

The Feng from Sony Ericsson, better known by its model number W302 (hence confirming its Walkman line pedigree), will be officially released this coming October 14th, confirming previous rumors circulating about the handset. It will come with a rudimentary 2 megapixel camera, a 176 x 220 resolution display and will presumably carry the same storage capabilities as the S302 albeit with superior audio capability. Watch out for an official announcement on the W302 next Tuesday. Hopefully it will come in more than just orange and black where color is concerned.

Android Developers angry at Google

Android Developers angry at Google

Google has apparently raised the ire of the Android mobile phone operating system developer community after restricting access to the latest version of the software development kit (SDK) to a handful of companies, which ironically, was meant for the open platform. This means the majority of Android developers are now left out in the cold with a 4-month old SDK that was last updated four months ago. The top 50 companies from its recent developer competition have been given access though, and I suppose the brainiacs behind Google have a very good motive for this despite shutting plenty of other people out at the moment. This is in stark contrast with Apple (who is notoriously tight fisted) offering more than 500 applications for download from their App Store. Interesting times indeed.

Neonode N2 Software Gets Upgraded

Neonode N2 Software Gets Upgraded

The Neonode N2 has received a new software upgrade that will see a slew of new features added (but of course, if not, there wouldn’t be any point to the upgrade now, would there?). This upgrade will see the addition of Winwap Technologies’ browser, a more manageable user interface, a new music player that provides an easier experience when it comes to performing housekeeping for tracks on your cell phone and a Sudoku game of all things. It is also nice to note that this software upgrade comes with an “extended area for text messaging”. Nice - but how many people do you know actually have the Neonode N2?

Maxell VRSP-400 iPod Dock

Maxell VRSP-400 iPod Dock

I guess if there’s one thing iPod owners need not worry, it would be the lack of iPod speaker docks. Those are dime a dozen, and the Maxell VRSP-400 is the latest to join the long line. Inside, you will find Bit-Revolution Technology that improves the quality of output sound, and it comes with a pair of 18W speakers, boasting a frequency response of 40Hz ~ 20kHz. Other features include an integrated FM radio for you to enjoy whenever (God forbid) you run out of tunes on your iPod. This 320mm x 198mm x 160mm iPod dock will cost approximately $238.

Dell E Mini Notebook Priced

Dell E Mini Notebook Priced

Dell’s E mini notebook has been priced at $300 each, which is very tempting considering the mass market appeal for a notebook of this size and price point. The Dell E will hit markets sometime in the last quarter of this year, so you will be able to rock with one by the time CES 2009 rolls around - I wonder how many tech journalists attending will carry a netbook or an equivalent? Dell is hoping to roll out anywhere from two to three million units before the year is over - pretty optimistic if you ask me, but their optimism is not unwarranted either considering the growing market that shows no sign of abating. Will you be picking up one of these small notebooks even if you already have a fully functional, beefed up model? If so, what’s the rationale behind that?

Navigon 2100 Sat-Nav

Navigon 2100 Sat-Nav

Although it bears the same name as the Navigon 2100 Max which was covered in March this year, this is a totally different device altogether. With a 3.5″ screen, the maps offered are regional and include both UK and Ireland instead of the whole of Europe. It doesn’t have the Lane Assistant Pro that the 2110 Max has, which means no minor road lane assistance, but standard lane assistance will still be provided. The other features found in this device are: -

Reality viewSpeed camera warningsBrightly colored POIsMap browserRoute planning toolMap updates (for a year)

The Navigon 2100 retails for approximately $200 and has the option to support TMC traffic info. Cons consist of the occasional satellite signal drop-out and can be unreliable in urban canyons.

iPhone Parody

Since we’re already in the middle of the work week, why not take some time out and laugh at this parody of the iPhone thanks to E!’s The Soup. For the uninitiated, The Soup is a TV show found on the E! network that makes fun of TV and pop culture in the U.S. This parody iPhone ad actually ran on the show earlier this week, much to the chagrin of many an iPhone 3G owner. Go watch it and have a good laugh - after all, the many pricing changes of the iPhone in its first year of existence is a good enough reason to let out a hearty guffaw.

DIY LED Candles can be Blown

DIY LED Candles can be Blown

With kids living in a digital world these days, how many of them have experienced the joys of blowing out actual wax candles on their birthday cake? Chances are their parents would’ve gotten them LED candles instead, but the more industrious ones will be able to come up with the DIY LED candles that are able to be blown out whenever the thermistor is blown upon hard enough to warrant a temperature drop, resulting in the LEDs turning off. Guess you’ll get a digital wish when that happens, but only in your pixellated dreams. At least you don’t have to worry about eating some wax accidentally with this.
