Waking up on a cool morning can be pretty hard to do, even more so on a Monday when you know there is nothing but stress, obnoxious colleagues and a pile of work waiting for you at the office. With the Philips AJL305 clock radio, your task is made much easier since it features DAB radio that allows you to tune in to your favorite radio station while getting your internal engine going. In addition to entertaining you with radio programs, you can also roll out of bed easier by displaying the most menacing image of your boss on the integrated digital photo frame, forcing you to get out of bed as that’s the face you’ll be seeing if you go in late for the third time this month. Philips will offer the AJL305 clock radio for £69.99 fromthis September.

What would happen if ordinary windows could be turned into solar panels? Well, that could work out in the future if researchers from MIT manage to stumble upon the magical blend that will coat ordinary windows to make this happen. These chemicals have a wide color range, from very bright to near transparent, and is able to absorb light while re-emit energy into the glass. Solar collectors are located around the window’s edge, collecting such conducted energy to power the building. This development hopes to see a commercially-ready version within 5 years’ time, making cities worldwide rejoice as their skyscrapers no longer need to just stick out like a sore thumb but contribute something back to society as well.

It looks great on the (leaked) paper: the Ainol V3000 will introduce a 4.3 inch screen with a (awesome) 800×480 resolution, which is quite unique, for a PMP. The device will support AVI, RM/RMVB, FLV and has TV Out. The rumor suggests that it will feature Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS - all of this for a cheap price tag : some think that the device could cost as little as $200.

Original Kindle
The news would come from an insider: a new and greatly improved Amazon Kindle is on its way and from what’s being said, it is leaps and bounds better than the first generation. First, it is said to be as big: 8.5×11”. There’s no mention of a color display, so it looks like we should not expect one. If true, that would be a welcome improvements, as we’ve said in the past that eBooks aren’t good enough, even if we like the cuteness of the Kindle.

Parallax have managed to conjure this magical Robot Spider from a Javelin Stamp, although I do dispute the technicality of the term used. After all, aren’t arachnids supposed to have four pairs of legs? This is more like a robot insect, considering the fact that it comes with two antennas - or are those just mis-grown legs? Cute.

Panasonic lays claim to yet another first - a free angle HDMI cable that is compliant with version 1.3a high data transfer speed specification. Since flat panel displays are doing gangbusters sales in the world today, there is a vast untapped market for HDMI cables with a free angle plug. Current HDMI cables may require up to 9cm of space behind a flatscreen TV and the wall in order to be connected, but since Panasonic’s Free Angle HDMI Cable has the flexibility of 180 degrees, the required space can be reduced to as little as 3cm. 1.5 and 3 metre versions will roll out this August at a yet undisclosed price. In the first place, do you think this is a problem that requires such a solution?

Remember the PDA, the “personal digital assistant” that was literally held out as the ultimate in portable technology? Even as PDA’s fade from the technology horizon, another currently hot “P” device - the PND, or “personal navigation device” - may soon follow, says an MIT Sloan School of Management expert on business strategy, technology, and innovation.PND products, such as Tom Tom and Garmin, may remain popular for a few years, “but life is getting tough very quickly” for PND makers, according to MIT Sloan Senior Lecturer Michael A. M. Davies. PND’s face a growing challenge not only from cell phones, which are increasingly equipped with high-end navigation programs, but from a less obvious competitor: automobile makers. As software expands the capabilities of PND’s, car manufacturers are in a unique position to make their use both practical and safe, he says.
