PlantSense GardenGro

PlantSense GardenGro

Plant killers, repentance and redemption is at hand! The PlantSense GardenGlo is the right product to help you move towards a green thumb, thanks to sensors located in its USB-powered stakes that are pushed into the soil and connected to your computer. These sensors will pick up all the relevant data of your soil and transmit it to the computer, where you can then have a visual analysis of the whole situation while taking stock of it. Perfect for those who aren’t sure whether there is enough water, sunlight and moisture in the environment. The PlantSense GardenGro will cost $59.95 per stake and will be available from Q4 onwards.

Coffee Toaster Combo

Coffee Toaster Combo

There is nothing quite like having a nice, hot cup of java in the morning with crispy toasts to go along with it. Simplify your life with the Breakfast Set from Team Appliances that boasts both a two-slot toaster and a five-cup drip coffee maker. It comes with a reusable filter and automatic shut off on the coffee maker, making it a snap to get you perked up during those rushed mornings. Retailing for just $50, could such a hybrid device mark the end of a standalone toaster after its many decades of faithful service?

Mitsubishi 149 iSP series LCD

Mitsubishi 149 iSP series LCD

The 149 iSP series of LCD displays from Mitsubishi now comes with a 16-speaker sound bar that will definitely appeal to folks who have absolutely no idea on how to set up a home theater system. Boasting an integrated Sound Projector, it simulates surround sound by sending sound around walls, but I would say that it won’t be as good as the real thing (as everything simulated normally isn’t). Interestingly enough, you will be able to alter the way it sounds depending on the room size as well as TV placement thanks to a flexible yet simple menu option. The 46″ and 52″ displays will retail for $3,300 and $3,700, respectively.

NVIDIA PhysX Modded to Run on ATI Hardware? Seems Fishy

NVIDIA PhysX Modded to Run on ATI Hardware? Seems Fishy

There is a rumor on the NGOHQ forum saying that someone has been able to modify (“mod”) a set of ATI drivers to run NVIDIA’s GPU-accelerated PhysX code on older (pre-4800) ATI cards. At the moment, there is no proof that the claim is true, as the author of the forum post did no release the modified material for others to try. That seems pretty fish to me, as it seems to be a long shot to “port” (rewrite) PhysX over ATI without rewriting the CUDA driver and also parts of the ATI graphics driver that would access CUDA data. All that without the most recent top-secret ATI driver source code. Of course, “in theory” everything is possible, but “in theory” all the traffic from Google could also be diverted to this blog by accident… (and that would make us very happy)

PS: if the guy could actually do it, I’d like to order a DX10 driver for Windows XP, that would be far more useful…

Vertigo Treatment Device

Vertigo Treatment Device

There’s been a breakthrough where folks experiencing benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) can now be treated thanks to the Epley Omniax system which uses glasses equipped with infrared sensors that are able to track the eye of a patient sitting in a free-rotating chair that performs “canalith repositioning maneuvers”. Since many people have loose particles known as otoconia which are found in the semi-circular canals of the inner ear, the monitoring of the eyes will be able to detect the particles’ presence while shaking them out of the sensitive areas by rotating the patient so that the sense of vertigo can be cured.

BlackBerry iTunes Synchronization Software

BlackBerry iTunes Synchronization Software

BlackBerry owners will be more than pleased to know that their smartphones will be getting RIM-endorsed iTunes synchronization software, but this will be available only for a short while. Nobody really knows why the software was suddenly taken offline - perhaps it was born too prematurely, and not meant for public consumption just yet? Other people think this is just a teaser to create a higher level of awareness in order to make it a hit when it is finally available, while the more negative ones think that this has way too many bugs for its own good. Good thing there is such a thing as mirrors which will make this software available for folks with a good nose for such “hidden” software.

Dash Express Software Update

Dash Express Software Update

Owners of the Dash Express will be pleased to know that a software update is made available, throwing in even more functionality while making the navigation experience all the more user-friendly. The update can be obtained automatically by plugging your Dash Express into any available Wi-Fi network. One of the main features found in this update is called MyRoute, a way to record shortcuts that you only know onto the Dash Express itself instead of relying on valid shortcuts provided by Dash themselves. In addition, the Dash Express is smart enough to analyze current traffic data and take traffic info into account when recommending a route automatically. Other tweaks include FasterFind for quicker GPS locks and a plethora of UI tweaks.

Eyeclops Night Vision Goggles

Eyeclops Night Vision Goggles

Unless you’re in the army or deal with covert operations, there isn’t much reason for you to get a pair of Eyeclops Night Vision Goggles. Of course, I think most people will use it for devious purposes, such as spying on lovers in their throes of passion in a secluded park or country side, but that’s beside the point. You get up to 50 feet of visibility even in complete darkness. Don’t expect them to be on par with military-spec night vision gear - after all, what do you expect for $79.99? The Eyeclops Night Vision Goggles will be available this fall. I’d suggest against wearing this during New Year’s Eve since the fireworks display will do a number on your eyes…
