Monster iCarPlay 250 FM Transmitter

Monster iCarPlay 250 FM Transmitter

Shipping of the Monster iCarPlay 250 FM transmitter for iPods and iPhones has begun, allowing owners of either (or both) Apple devices to not only play but charge them from the car outlet (or USB if they so desire). Doing the latter is hassle-free - just pop the USB cable out of the cigarette lighter adapter and into a powered USB port and you’re good to go. Features include a trio of programmable FM station presets for simplified tuning, a blue LCD display, frequency-adaptive audio output, and a low-profile power adapter designed to minimize front-seat clutter. The inclusion of Monster’s AutoScan 3D technology makes it a snap to search for the clearest band of available FM frequencies for the transmitter. The Monster iCarPlay 250 will go for $99.95.

Hyundai W220S 3D LCD Monitor

Hyundai W220S 3D LCD Monitor

Hyundai will indulge us in a new 3D LCD display that relies on TriDef technology. Known as the W220S, this 22″ monitor resembles a fairly standard LCD display at first glance, and also doubles up as a normal 2D display if you wish. When you wear polarized glasses, however, 3D images can be viewed - pretty much like how the iZ3D monitors function (read our 17” and 22” iZ3D reviews). Other features are nothing out of the ordinary as shown below. WSXGA+ resolution (1,680 x 1,050)Brightness of 300cd/m²Contrast ratio of 1,000:1 Response time of 5msHDMI/DVI-D interface Integrated speakers (3W x 2)It will retail for approximately €590.

LG Dares with Chocolate Decoy

LG Dares with Chocolate Decoy

OK, so the title above might be lame to some, but I couldn’t resist. LG has rolled out a trio of new handsets for the masses - the Dare, the Chocolate and the Decoy. The Dare will feature a touch screen display (which phone doesn’t nowadays), 3G connectivity, V-Cast, VZ Navigator and a 3.2 megapixel camera. As for the Decoy, this will be the first cell phone in the world to feature an integrated Bluetooth headset inside, while the most recent Chocolate series phone is a slim flip style music handset that boasts 1GB of memory, a microSD memory card slot, a 2 megapixel camera, an integrated FM tuner, V-Cast Music library access, dual speakers, and Bluetooth connectivity. Both the LG Dare and Decoy will be available this June 16th while the Chocolate is available at the beginning of next month onwards.

Robot Receptionist Gets Job

Robot Receptionist Gets Job

Shenyang in China has created history by being the first city to hire a robotic receptionist in order to provide investors with help to obtain their business-related documents. This unique robot is smart enough to nod its head, wave its hand and even say “Hi” while communicating with others in the complex Chinese language. Most of the robot consists of sonar equipment, a single microphone, a couple of LED lights, two driving wheels, and a directional wheel. He will be able to work for up to 10 non-stop hours before requiring a 3 hour charge. Best of all is, he won’t be involved in office politics and you sure as heck won’t catch him sleeping on the job.

SanDisk TakeTV Dies

SanDisk TakeTV Dies

Guess it is only natural for SanDisk to kill off its TakeTV device after offing the Fanfare online video store earlier this month. Originally meant to be a USB PC-to-TV video device that has pretty good potential, featuring playback support for XviD, DivX and MPEG-4 formats on a TV, this move makes sense since it was also meant to complement the Fanfare video service as well. Well, if you’re a TakeTV owner I guess there isn’t much you can do except to be more careful about which technology you invest in the next time around, my sympathies to you.

Robot Hand Senses Nearby Objects

Robot Hand Senses Nearby Objects

Check out this robot hand that is able to sense a nearby object before it comes into contact with it, courtesy of using the electrolocation process which involves the robot’s fingertips sending out weak electrical impulses to approaching objects which then interfere with that impulse, enabling the hand to form the object before touching it. This sense of pre-touch is the ultimate goal for Intel’s researchers, and guess this will help future bionic arms in robots function much more efficiently.

Mini Water Cooler

Mini Water Cooler

You know how those gossiping sessions at the office often revolve around a water cooler? Well, why not bring the action to your desk with the Mini Water Cooler instead? It measures $12.99 and stands at 14″ tall. Of course, you won’t be able to store much water at that size, but it will make for a cute conversation starter especially when you want to get to know that new hottie at the office. If you’re so hard up for gossip, why not bug the pantry or water cooler instead? That way, you’ll be able to find out whether your colleagues really like you…or not.

AMD and Havok/Intel Optimize Physics for AMD

AMD and Havok/Intel Optimize Physics for AMD

When Havok/Intel and AMD work together to make physics simulation run faster on CPUs, one could say that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”, right? In case you don’t know, Havok is owned by Intel and provides a good physics library for game developers. CPU makers are saying that physics is critical to games and that gameplay related physics should run on the CPU, because the AI (artificial intelligence) needs to know what’s happening in the virtual world.

Of course, these comments are aimed at NVIDIA’s vision of computing physics on the GPU. They have recently bough AGEIA that has its own “PhysX” library for developers. So, should physics run on CPUs or GPUs? Answer: Both. Game-related physics on the CPU uses simple and less numerous bodies, while “eye-candy” physics can run on the GPU at rates that CPUs just can’t match. Can’t we just all leave in peace?

Sega Toys to sell EMA

Sega Toys to sell EMA

Sega Toys will start to sell its E.M.A. robot (Eternal, Maiden, Actualization) in Japan from September 26th onwards. What makes this robot so special from the ones we’ve seen in the past? Well, it is supposed to have a “glamorous body” along with a high level of interactivity (no, nothing sensual here). E.M.A. can apparently hand out business cards, sing, dance, and strut down the table like a lady. She can also kiss, although I’m not sure I want to do the tongue tango with some piece of metl anytime soon. Other parts include infrared sensors that help it find its way around. E.M.A. will be a Japan-only product, retailing for $175. Will you try to import one?
