Sony has just lifted the curtain on its eyeVio HD Pro service, allowing posting and sharing of HDTV video files on its video sharing portal. Hmmm, a high definition version of YouTube, eh, except that this is more exclusive. This new upgrade in the eyeVio service will commence from today onwards in Japan, whereas standard definition eyeVio files have been up and available since April last year. Users can use PCs, PS3s and Sony’s BRX-NT1 network TV box to upload their videos. You will need a pretty muscular computer to view the videos though, with a minimum system specifications of an Intel 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB RAM, and Windows XP SP3/Mac OS X 10.5 or higher. Forget about copper telephone lines, you’ll need hard hitting optical fiber networks for the optimal experience.

No, the XPS 2.0 from Skyhook is not a tie up with Dell despite sharing the same namesake as the latter’s notebook range - instead, XPS 2.0 is a “next-generation hybrid positioning system.” It doesn’t just rely on Wi-Fi, but will incorporate data from GPS satellites and cell phone towers as well, ensuring you will never, ever get lost again despite being in an urban canyon that is often the bane of satellites and towers when it comes to triangulating your position. The XPS 2.0 service is meant for handheld devices, but Skyhook has yet to announce any deals with big phone chip makers. Well, with more and more cell phones featuring A-GPS these days, it would be interesting to see which niche XPS 2.0 resides in.

Matsushita managed to develop a couple of business-oriented projectors which are able to output images on curved surfaces, and this can be achieved without the need for any extra components. I wonder what the feeling is like, watching an image or even a movie on a curved surface - will it be radically different and much more immersive, or will it offer me a royal headache in the end? The two projectors are the PT-D12000 and PT-DZ12000, boasting a brightness of 12,000 lumens. Since it uses a 300W lamp over the traditional 250W lamp, it features an improved thermal design to keep things running cool.

Remember those calliper tools that you used in school labs? Oh, you weren’t paying attention? Well, the 08 Radio concept is interesting as it plays upon the calliper tool, where you find the station you want simply by sliding the radio unit itself up and down the scale. Back to the good old analog days, eh? It is different from pressing buttons to choose the desired station, and you will definitely lose out on the auto-search function that we all have come to take for granted, but it sure as heck looks cool in any living room!

Show your love for the 8-bit gaming world of yore with these NES card holders. Despite retailing for $8.80 each, the image quality on this product looks more like some bootlegged version, and you can choose from Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Ice Climber or Balloon Fight and Famicom controller versions. Definitely not worth a purchase - I think it would be better to just pick up a vanilla name card holder and print out your own NES graphics on a piece of glossy paper, followed by pasting it for a much better DIY version.

iPhone-Hacks.com has posted up a sumary of a new app that promises ubiquitous VoIP on the iPhone.iCall is a newly announced app coming out on Apple’s App Store. It promises seamless call switching between VoIP via WiFi and regular calls. There will be no hacking involved, they are fully approved Apple developer. iCall has a two tier system with a free version and a ‘pro’ version with added features. iCall is their own service provider so don’t expect to use this application with any of your current VoIP plans like Vonage. It will be interesting to see how this will compare with other services competeing for the iPhone VoIP market. Like the previously released RingFree. Here is their very short FAQ:1. We are part of the Apple iPhone developer program. This is not an application for you naughty jail breakers 2. We are not using any undocumented API calls. We are following every rule that developers must follow. 3. No, you can not have a copy. We are not physically capable of distributing the application to any phones except our development phones. If Steve-ness himself wanted a copy we could not provide it to him. Sorry. 4. Apple has explicitly stated that VoIP is allowed, just not over Edge networks. Steve himself answered this question in the Q&A session after the last keynote speech. 5. We are huge Apple fans and plan to release a version of iCall for OS X, but we don’t have enough developers. (see question 6). 6. Yes we are hiring. Please visit our jobs page. We’ll even pay for you to move to Greenwich, CT.Video after the break…iCall App Enables GSM to WiFi / VoIP Switching on the iPhonehttp://www.icall.com/iphone/Via: slashdot.org

Mathmos, the folks who came up with the original Lava Lamp are back with a vengeance - this time with the LED lighting fixture known as the Poplight. Each Poplight is unique in its own right since it is made from handblown glass, and will gradually fade between shades of blue, purple, violet, magenta, red, and black. Measuring slightly more than a foot tall, the Poplight is just right for a bookshelf or them nooks and crannies. It is good enough for mood lighting, but it would be advisable not to use these as reading lights. The Poplight will retail for $75 each in the US, but those residing in the UK can get it much cheaper at £28 apiece.
