Takara Tomy Has New Toys

Takara Tomy Has New Toys

Takara Tomy is at it again, with a couple of new USB toys for your desktop to while away the time during those long Monday afternoons at the office. Unfortunately, they only work with a Japanese operating system, so unless you can read the language from the Land of the Rising Sun, these won’t really help. I guess Japanese workers could do with de-stressing at the office - after all, aren’t they one of the most pressured societies in the world?

MindwireV5 Gaming System

MindwireV5 Gaming System

The MindwireV5 gaming system ups the ante when it comes to gaming excitement, as it sends small jolts of electricity via the five self-adhesive pads which are hooked up to your arms, legs and stomach, allowing you to experience the sensory feedback that mirrors the game action. It currently works with majority of current PS3, Xbox and GameCube games, including PC titles that feature force feedback support. As for next generation consoles, only selected configurations will work with the Mindwire V5. I certainly would not want to be on the receiving end of Force Lightning in a Star Wars game while wearing thsi though. The MindwireV5 gaming system will retail for $200.

Buffalo 1TB LinkStation Mini

Buffalo 1TB LinkStation Mini

Buffalo has just rolled out its new 1TB LinkStation Mini that holds a couple of 500GB 2.5″ hard drives inside a single unit, making 1TB of storage space portable on an unprecedented level. It will hit retail stores sometime this month with a price tag of approximately $824 attached to it. I would probably use this as some sort of backup device for my notebook and leave it at home, since losing all those photos taken across a span of time will be too much for me to handle should the LinkStation Mini go missing during my travels.

Xbox 360 To Get Price Cut?

Xbox 360 To Get Price Cut?

According to industry sources, Microsoft should be lowering the price of its entire Xbox 360 range - in Europe, at least. Videogaming247.com claims that non-disclosure agreements are already in place with leading retailers, placing a lock over their mouths from revealing the upcoming price drop which will come into effect right after the Easter season. Well, if you think that you can live without an Xbox 360 till then, why not take the chance? After all, with the extra money (approximately 50 Euros) you would save should this rumor come true could be enough to buy another game.

Levitating Joystick Controls Computer

We all know of the mouse and keyboard, but are you open to a new way of controlling your computer? How about using a computer controller levitated by magnets ala Maglev? This system apparently has more benefits over standard mechanical haptic controllers, where the computer interface will stimulate the user’s sense of touch. Ralph Hollis and colleagues at Carnegie Mellon University have developed this haptic device with just one moving part, where a bowl with electromagnets are concealed below its base, holding a levitating bar which is held by the user and can be moved in virtually any direction. The magnet will the exert necessary forces on the bar, simulating the resistance of a weight or a surface’s resistance or friction. I guess games will benefit the most from this system - only if a commercial rollout occurs.

Vodafone Shows Off Otello

Vodafone Shows Off Otello

CeBIT ‘08 is the platform for Vodafone to show off its picture-driven search known as Otello, where users need not input a word but a photo instead to the search engine. In theory, that should make it a snap to find similar pictures in a snap, but I do have my reservations. Well, at least you can know whether your face looks like that of a porn star when the results start to filter in. Unfortunately, when German Chancellor Angel Merkel tried out the system, her mug was not recognized. Perhaps she has been so low profile thus far?

$40k MacBook Air is Ridiculous

$40k MacBook Air is Ridiculous

Filed in the “bling” category, this MacBook Air will possibly end up being the most expensive MacBook Air ever. At $39750, you get 12000 Swarovski crystals on top of a 24k gold coating.

At that price, I’m not even sure that you get the SSD version.

Industrial Espionage in LG May Lead to a Billion Dollars Loss to Korean Economy

An ex-LG employee was indicted by Korea in a case of industrial espionage. The employee has allegedly provided 1182 computer files to a Chinese company called Changhong-Orion PDP-Chaihong which is said to have used the information to copy LG’s production technology.
