InfoSonics verykool Cell Phones

InfoSonics verykool Cell Phones

InfoSonics Corporation will be rolling out its verykool line-up at the upcoming 3GSM show in Barcelona that will feature GPRS, EDGE and 3G connectivity. These devices are currently in their final testing stages, so don’t expect the paraded handsets to be bug-free at the show. Some of the features for these upcoming devices will include jumping onto the touch screen display bandwagon, integrated video playback, cameras of high megapixel count, e-mail access, PC Sync, and expansion memory slots. They have been designed to target the youth market (whether biologically or those who are young-at-heart, it doesn’t matter). Should be pretty interesting to check these out IMHO.

New Chip Runs On Body Heat

New Chip Runs On Body Heat

So, you’re toting around that souped up laptop that is more capable than a desktop when it comes to playing the latest games? Unfortunately, you had better find a spot nearby to a power outlet if you’re going to extract more than an hour’s worth of battery life from such a laptop as they’re amazing power guzzlers. A group of researchers at MIT has managed to developed a new chip that requires extremely little power, allowing it to enable sensors, communications devices and different gadgets on a combination of body heat and movement alone. While that is a long way off from powering a computer, just imagine what further research into this theory could yield.

Do you know what 182 means? What about CRS? If you are a seasoned text messenger, you know exactly what those mean (I Hate You and Can’t Remember Sh** for those that arn’t). When I was in high school, 182 was just a number, but today it means so much more. So if you find yourself on the other end of a BRB, here is a quick run down of some common and not so common messages.

Motus Darwin Wiimote Could Spawn Wii-like Games on Other Platforms

Motus Darwin Wiimote

We’ve always said that Sony or Microsoft could create their own Wiimote and quite frankly, it’s not clear why they have not done so yet (other than to avoid potential lawsuits?).

The Motus Darwin is a multi-platform Wiimote-like device that works, among other things, on a PC. You you go on the Motus website, you’ll see that they originally created the technology to help golfers improve their swing. Does it mean that Wii-like games will now spawn on other platforms?

Zilok.com: Try the MacBook Air for $29 a day

Zilok.com: Try the MacBook Air for $29 a day

Zilok.com the online rental marketplace launched in October in Europe and in November in the US lets you try the MacBook Air before you buy. Given the experience that we had with Leopard not working for a while, I am suspicious about the reliability of the first version of the MacBook Air too, and hardware problems cannot be fixed with an easy software update. My MacBook Pro gets very hot and the optical drive never worked, so given the thinness of the new Apple laptop, I can at least verify that heat is not an issue for $29 a day. Cool!

Zilok will start this service in San Francisco now and in Berkeley next week. More locations will be added later.

zzzPhone: Shop for a Customized Phone Like You Would for a PC

zzzPhone: Buy a Customized Phone Like You Would for a PC

Chinese company zzzPhone sells customized cellphones to a degree never seen before, for an automated process. Users can choose to add 23 options ranging from case color to speakers, GPS, digital camera or water-resistance. The base phone starts at $149 and can go as high as $800 or more, if you choose all the options and pre-load the phone with music and software.

We have not tried the service and we don’t even know if they are a legitimate company, but the idea is cool enough to be worth the read. zzzPhone.com

iPhone Gets 16GB Memory

iPhone Gets 32GB Memory

Apple has just made available a new iPhone that comes with 16GB of memory, pushing the price to $499 while keeping the lonely 8GB model company at an Apple Store near you. The latter will still see its price remain at $399, so those hoping for a price cut will be out of luck. It seems that all iPhone models will feature the most up-to-date software enhancements announced last month, including the ability to find your location automatically via the new Maps application. Will you be willing to fork out that kind of money for an additional 8GB of memory? Those who are used to carrying plenty of media files with them will probably find this a welcome addition. I believe that what potential iPhone customers really want is 3G connectivity and not additional memory. [Press Release]

HTC Magnum? The Largest Windows Mobile 6 Device

HTC Magnum

portalppc.com has posted a about a gigantic tablet-like device called the HTC Magnum. From the photo, you can tell that it is running… Windows Mobile, which is funny when you associate the word “mobile” with the device on the photo. I guess that you could call it “transportable”. Also, it is said to have an OLED display, which is surprising, given the size and the thickness of this monster.

It looks more like something that you would carry around to demonstrate Windows Mobile 6 rather than an actual product, but we just don’t know. What do you think? Portalppc also has published some crazy specs, but we don’t believe that they are correct:

Operating system: Windows Mobile 6.1 CPU: 800MHz Marvell Display: OLED Display, Touch, WVGA the 65000 colors 2GB ROM and 256MB RAM Weight: 730g with battery (incredible!) GPS: SiRFStar III WiFi, Bluetooth, WiMax, HSDPA Graphic Processor: Mobile 128MB ATI Weight: 730g with battery  Battery: Fuel Cell with autonomy for 30 hours

Next-Gen MacBook Pro to Feature Multi-Touch

Next-Gen MacBook Pro to Feature Multi-Touch

It’s not surprising to learn that industry insiders firmly believe that Apple will integrate the MacBook Air’s Multi-Touch pad in upcoming MacBook Pro laptops. The more interesting point is that the pads themselves are going to get larger to improve their usability.

Apple fan sites have been reporting that the new MacBook computers would be announced within weeks. The multi-touch pad won’t be the only update: we expect Apple to announce the use of Penryn, Intel’s latest processor evolution. That means a small performance boost and hopefully a better battery life.
