B&O Self-calibrating Robo TV

B&O Self-calibrating Robo TV

Bang & Olufsen (B&O)’s BeoVision 4 plasma TV not only comes with 1080p resolution support, it is capable of calibrating itself after 100 hours of viewing is up in order to make sure that the images you get is always presented in a manner closest-to-life as possible. It accomplishes this without the assistant of any human, using a short robotic arm that comes with a camera at the end to take a test photo. The snapped image’s color temperature will be analyzed on screen before the TV’s settings are adjusted accordingly. Sounds pretty neat, and the BeoVision 4 will come in 50″ and 65″ configurations that retail for $7500 and $13,500, respectively.

iLuv i1155 Multimedia Player with iPod Dock

iLuv i1155 Multimedia Player with iPod Dock

If you’re sick and tired of watching your favorite movies through the iPod’s tiny display, there is always the iLuv i1155 to help you out. This iPod dock comes with an 8.4″ TFT LCD display and a car adapter, making this one truly portable unit. I’m not too confident of its use in a vehicle though as driving through bright sunlight will probably result in washed out colors for passengers in the back seat. At $249.99 a pop, you get the following :- DVD playback supported8.4? widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) TFT LCDiPod chargeriPod full remote controlTouch sensitive function keypad controls Integrated dock for your iPod with video (30GB, 60GB and 80GB)Adjustable stand with latches for desktop use and different viewing anglesComposite and S-Video output

Lenovo Quits Cell Phone Business

Lenovo Quits Cell Phone Business

Looks like Lenovo has thrown in the towel for the cell phone business as well as the Windows Mobile market after bleeding a large amount of money in the 2007 calendar year. It will sell off its loss-making business for approximately $100 million to a private equity firm controlled by its parent Legend Holdings. Does this mean with one less player in the Windows mobile market, the pie has just gotten bigger for everybody else?

Tik Tak Clock Drives You Nuts

Tik Tak Clock Drives You Nuts

I personally think that clocks and watches should take the minimalist route and not bother with trying to come up with the most puzzling designs. That’s the mistake the Tik Tak clock has, although I’m sure its designer has some sort of deeper meaning behind the time. There’s nothing more irritating than trying to tell what time it is while you’re running late, only to be greeted by some undecipherable timepiece. Would you pay £89 to hang something like this on your wall?

Purple Magic Phone Announced

Purple Magic Phone Announced

No, you don’t need Prince to announce the Purple Magic cell phone as it was introduced today, being based on the NXP Nexperia Cellular System Solution 7210 for 3G, along with the Purple Labs Linux suite. This is but a reference phone as at time of publishing, but it is already been described as a “fully integrated, turnkey solution” - so in all probability, other handset manufacturers might be working on their own versions of the device already. It is hoped that this handset will further drive down the cost of ownership for a 3G handset. Which is your favorite 3G phone to date, and why?

Sony Ericsson Detachable Display Concept

Sony Ericsson Detachable Display Concept

Now how about this concept of a cell phone that comes with a detachable display? That’s what Sony Ericsson has thought up in their clamshell idea, described in a patent application as “Detachable Housings for a Wireless Communication Device “. You get a couple of detachable connected housings, where one of them holds the user interface devices for data input and control while the other carries a display with several user input buttons and the relevant phone circuitry, application processor, memory, and battery. When detached, they can “talk” with one another thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, and the housings were specially designed to be joined in different orientations. Sounds pretty much like the perfect handset for folks who like to customize the features within. Do you think the world is ready to accept such an idea?
