R110 THE ONE Light Hits Korea

R110 THE ONE Light Hits Korea

Is this a weirdly named PC case or what - the R110 THE ONE Light from 3Rsystem that was recently launched in Korea. I like the wine-red color LCD located on the front panel as it adds a really menacing glow to an otherwise docile case. What are some of the options that you can expect with this gamer-centric case? 140mm cooling fan with dust filter3.5″ hard drive baysUSB 2.0 portsHD audio portNo idea on how much it costs though.

Dell Ubuntu Powered XPS M1330 Notebooks

Dell Ubuntu Powered XPS M1330 Notebooks

Dell will be selling its Ubuntu-powered XPS M1330 notebooks for less than the $1,000 mark, targeting those who prefer to work with a penguin instead of in an environment filled with shards from broken windows. This new offering featuring Ubuntu 7.10 pre-installed will be available in Germany, UK, France, Spain and the US, with the option for users to include Corel LinDVD with each purchase by forking out additional dough (but of course). Word has it that Dell has also started to sell a fair bit of their Linux systems with proprietary NIVIDA graphics drivers installed and 3D effects enabled for superior portable performance. Sounds like a sweet deal - any takers?

Continental Airlines Offer In-Flight WiFi

Continental Airlines Offer In-Flight WiFi

Looks like Continental Airlines will be latest airline to offer in-flight WiFi from January 2009 onwards - that’s one whole year to wait for those who love flying with Continental. Needless to say, no further details are available, and we all know that everyone is interested in these twin points - pricing and speed. In addition to in-flight WiFi, Continental is also tipped to offer three dozen channels of live, inflight satellite-based television programming provided by DIRECTV at every seat on Continental’s new generation aircraft.

Garmin Nuvifone Premiere

Garmin Nuvifone Premiere

Garmin just presented the Nuvifone, a cellphone that is also a GPS. Here is how Nuvi describes it: “is the breakthrough product that cell phone and GPS users around the world have been longing for — a single device that does it all,” (Cliff Pemble, Garmin CEO)

It is an interesting effort, and we will reserve our judgment until we can test it in the field, but this confirms something that we have been thinking for a while: GPS devices are commodities and it’s going to be really hard for a GPS maker to survive in the coming years. Chip are getting small enough that soon every phone will have a GPS – just like they (almost) all have Bluetooth.

But jumping on the cellphone bandwagon won’t be enough to guarantee their survival. Just look at how Motorola is struggling. There are ways to delay the point where phones will take over: larger displays, better design, faster computing. But in the end GPS makers will be squeeze from two sides: GPS car integration and GPS phone integration.

Gateway Desktops Does HD DVD and Blu-ray

Gateway Desktops Does HD DVD and Blu-ray

Guess Gateway is taking the moderate path by releasing new desktops which come with a Hyper SuperMulti drive which is capable of both HD DVD and Blu-ray playback. Of course, we all know that HD DVD suffered a mortal wound back at CES ‘08 earlier this month but who knows how Toshiba might turn things around (fire sales notwithstanding :P). Other than that bit of news, the rest of the system specifications include AMD’s Phenom quad-core processors, 3GB RAM, and a slew of other doodads. The Hyper SuperMulti drive will only be available in the GM5664 though, while the GT5662 makes do with a mere 18× DVD±RW DVD burner. The GM5664 and GT5662 retail from $1,149.99 and $749.99 upwards, respectively.

Samsung 70-inch LCD TV in Taiwan

Samsung 70-inch LCD TV in Taiwan

Samsung recently rolled out a 70″ LCD TV in Taiwan, bringing yet another large screen option to homes in that part of the world. Well, at that size you can expect nothing less than full HD (1080p) for all your entertainment needs, with features such as a whoppnig 500,000 to 1 contrast ratio, a brightness level of 500 nits and Samsung’s very own LED SmartLighting technology. How much does it cost? Well, it ought to cost more than a pretty penny definitely.

Shutter Buttons On Cameras To Go?

Shutter Buttons On Cameras To Go?

Could the humble shutter button on digital cameras be done away with in the future? That could be a possibility, considering Casio’s fantastic EX-F1 super camera that is capable of capturing 60 six-megapixel still shots in just a second, in addition to 1,200 frames of video with the same amount of time. Being that advanced, a manual shutter could be considered as a hindrance since it brings camera shake into the equation - which is definitely working against capturing great shots. According to a Casio executive, “A shutter button might even be one of the principal causes of bad pictures. If users did not release a shutter, there [would be] no camera shake. If a camera decided the timing, it would not miss a decisive moment.” Mmm, when will we see such delectable cameras in the future?

Jelly Click Mouse

Jelly Click Mouse

Talk about carrying around an extremely portable mouse - unless these devices have gained the compression capability of the All Spark, the average mouse can only be reduced in size to what they are today. The Jelly Clock mouse is different, with all electronic circuitry remaining on a small flexible board, while the body itself is made out of soft plastic. Should you need to use the mouse, just blow up the Jelly Clock, attach the USB cable and you’re good to go. I don’t think using your mouth to blow it up is such a good idea since moisture from your mouth won’t do the circuitry any good at all in the long run. What we need is the Moldable Mouse instead.
