Now this is a pretty interesting concept to chew over - the Din-ink. Designed by Italians (they seem to have made the art form their very own) Andrea Cingoli, Paulo Emilio Bellisario, Cristian Cellini and Francesca Fontana, this concept of theirs was a winner in designboom’s macef 2008 competition, “dining in 2015.” All these utensils are made from corn and potato, and they can biodegrade within 180 days - making it a very viable option for use in flights. All you need is a compatible pen to get it working, although I wouldn’t eat anything as tough as steak with these.

Looks like the world is looking for something fresh musically these days, as the trend seems to be leaning towards building your own musical instruments. While efforts to date seem to rely on digital technology too much with results that aren’t too pleasing to the ears, at least it is a start. The Drum Buddy is one such example - why don’t you check out the video (requires QuickTime) and leave us a comment on what you think about it? Open source music - who would’ve thought?

If you have been waiting for the Sony Mylo 2, an eagle-eyed Ubergizmo commenter spotted that it was shipping tomorrow on sonystyle.com
In case you missed it, the Sony Mylo 2 is an internet communicator that connects via WiFi, its strongest point is the magnificent 800×480 display while its weakness is that it’s not a phone and it is a little bulky. The good side is: there are no expensive monthly charges and users can browse on Wayport’s network for free. Check out our full review of the Sony Mylo 2.

Yamaha Australia intends to make a splash (no pun intended) with its giant fishtank that is known as the Yamaha SupaTank. Measuring a whopping 15 meters long, three meters in height and 2.5 meters wide, the SupaTank holds 13,000 liters of water and is meant to provide the public with a fish-eye-view on the world of angling. This underwater display comes with 20 live fish that is guaranteed to elicit delight in the audience, especially kids who seem to be naturally drawn towards nature. This tank demonstrates how a fish is caught from an underwater perspective without having them to tune in to National Geographic on TV.

Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson and Scaled Composites CEO Burt Rutan showed off their new design for SpaceShipTwo.

Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo is scheduled to make its debut flight in 2009
Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson and Scaled Composites CEO Burt Rutan showed off their new design for SpaceShipTwo. Billed as the worlds first commercial suborbital spacecraft, SpaceShipTwo will take travelers to the edge of the universe. Well, not quite the edge of the universe but the edge of outer space. The inaugural flight will contain about 100-200 wealthy travelers who have reserved a $200,000 seat aboard the craft.
SpaceShipTwo has a 42-foot wingspan and a tail height of 15 feet. It’s covered in windows with 18-inch diameters so that Virgin Galactic travelers will be able to have a full view of space and the Earth below them as they experience zero gravity. They’ve paid $200,000 for between four and five minutes of weightlessness, so they’d better have a darned good view.
SpaceShipTwo (in the middle of the picture) will be mounted on its “mother ship,” WhiteKnightTwo. The WhiteKnightTwo aircraft is a high-altitude aircraft that will taxi SpaceShipTwo to the upper atmosphere where it will detach. The process known as an “air launch” is said to be much more “green”per passenger than a typical commercial flight and safer too.

Looks like the FCC have already taken a look at Sony’s upcoming portable media player, the A820. Judging by the model number, this is most probably the successor to the A810 portable media player which was pretty hip when it rolled out sometime last year. Details concerning its specifcations are extremely scarce, but we do know that it will be equipped with Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR and come in varying capacities of 4GB, 8GB and 16GB.

While the race in size is slowly petering out by itself where flat panel TVs are concerned, manufacturers are now trying to outdo one another in terms of thickness. Sharp claims to take top spot with its new AQUOS X series of LCD TVs, measuring a mere 1.35″ at the thinnest section. Unfortunately for Sharp, their prototype paraded at IFA last year was thinner, but at least this newly introduced line is now in production. Guess the Japanese need these thinner TVs more than we do, since they do have to maximize their living space after all.

Now I know where that miserly Mario stashes all his gold coins - why, in the Super Mario Mushroom Bank, of course! ThinkGeek is offering this deliciously geeky video gaming accessory for $14.99 - perfect for folks who think that hitting bricks with their heads will result in money dropping from the sky. You can choose from two iconic versions - the 1UP Mushroom and the Super Mushroom. I think the former would be more appropriate since having some savings on a rainy day is somewhat akin to having an extra life…
