Personal Jet Wing

Personal Jet Wing

Don’t dream about avoiding traffic jams quite yet, this one-person jet-powered wing can’t propel a person from the ground into to the sky. Instead pilot Yves Rossy needs a lift in an airplane, then starts the wing at an altitude of 4km (13,000ft). While this really fun to use (it certainly is), not everyone has Yves military pilot experience. In case you wonder, he lands using a parachute, and flies straight for about 4 to 6 minutes. Video in the full post.

Samsung Blackjack WM6 Update – It works

Samsung Blackjack WM6 Update – It works

I just finished updating my Samsung Blackjack (read review) to Windows Mobile 6 (WM6) and it works just fine. The update instructions are very clear, if you read them.

Now I need to setup my Exchange Server information. In theory, you can backup all your settings, and restore them after the update. I wonder this phone will have a Windows Mobile 7 update… take a look at WM7 at MobilityToday.

FPS Gun Mouse

FPS Gun Mouse

I’m not too sure if FPS gamers will take to the FPS Gun Mouse, but it certainly offers a little bit extra compared to what is currently available in the market. You get gold plated USB connectors to help you make that kill a split second faster than your regular mouse-toting opponent, Teflon-coated skates for smooth sailing, and five programmable buttons to turn you into one virtual, effective killing machine. I think it will take a fair amount of time to get used to this setup though, and most folks will probably stick to the tried and true gaming mouse instead. Still, if you’re curious enough to try the FPS Gun Mouse, it retails for $73 a pop.

Blu-Ray Captures 92.53% Market Share in the Second Week of January

Blu-Ray Captures 92.53% Market Share in the Second Week of January

The graph shows Blu-Ray and HD-DVD hardware sales for the first two weeks of January. Looking the recent data (on the right), you pretty much get how bad this is getting for HD-DVD, if you still care. Many consumers would wait prices and combo-drives are ubiquitous, but if you can’t wait, then this is pretty good indication that HD-DVD is hosed.

When we talked to Samsung, they said that a dual-format drive was only 10% to 15% more expensive to make, and that they could “easily” go back to a single format, if necessary. There’s no need for drama, and may be we’ll stop hearing about this soon. Interestingly enough, there are 11 DVD formats (R, RW+, RW-…), but thanks to combo drives, nobody cares.

We will test it later today, so come back to get more details from us.

Roll-Out Screen eBook to Be Released in Mid 2008

Roll-Out Screen eBook to Be Released in Mid 2008

”You get the large display of e-reading, the super battery life of e-reading, and the high-end connectivity … and the form factor and weight of a mobile phone,” (link – Karl McGoldrick, Polymer Vision CEO)

That sums up the idea behind the device, but the specs (in the full post) aren’t so impressive. From the screen size to its resolution, I’m having a hard time to see it as the ideal eBook. Obviously, the content distribution is the other side of a good media device. It is not hard to imagine that Amazon will have the upper-hand on distribution content in the short term.
