The Vulcan Flipstart ultra-mobile PC (UMPC) can be bought for $699 – it used to cost as much as $2000 last year. I thought that some of you might be tempted, so here you go, you can get one at Dynamism. It says “while supplies last”…

I’m not a big fan of the keyboard, but this is tempting.

Many people were wondering what would happen if/when the Macbook Air battery dies. Well, know we know: Apple will sell you a new one for $129 and will replace it in the laptop, free of charge. I don’t think that they can replace it on the spot (but I could be wrong), so expect to have your laptop shipped to customer service.

AT&T has to replace 17,000 batteries used in network cabinets after four equipment fires in the last two years. Avestor, the battery maker is out of business (I wonder why) and can’t help find if the problem affects a particular series of batteries or all of them. AT&T will therefore have to replace the whole installed base, which will cost many millions and a lot of time.
“It looks like a multimillion-dollar job, considering the cost of replacement batteries plus the labor to install them. They’ll probably need to change the wiring to the batteries, too.” (Kermit Ross, Analyst)

Voltaic says that this bag can generate 14.7 Watts (in optimum conditions) – enough to charge some laptops. We don’t know how it performs in the real world, but we like anything that’s solar powered
It comes with an array of adapters for laptops and of course, USB. The bag is big enough to accommodate a 17” Mac, comes in 4 colors (green, orange, silver, charcoal) and costs… $599!

I don’t know if Maria will continue to snap photos of her ugly dog with a Canon camera, but it looks like she’s going to snap picture of herself on a Sony Ericsson phone. Expect to see more of her on the next Sony Ericsson ad campaigns.
I wonder if Sony Ericsson has also increased the budget to build better phones as well…

Touch displays are seen as the new wireless promised land these days. The SGH-i900 is Samsung’s latest attempt to get a piece of the action: this phone has 3G and a GPS, two items that tops iPhone owners’ whish list. It will also come with applications like MSN Messenger, the Web Browser Opera, and many others. However I don’t think that this will come even close to the mobile Mac OS X… As I said before, having cool hardware is not enough these days. This is just my own speculation – let’s wait and see what comes out of this.

Not really “gadgety” but look at this: Scientists at the University of Minnesota have announced that they have engineered a (rat) heart by growing muscle and endothelial (vein coating) cells in a “gelatin” heart-shaped scaffold that also had all the necessary conduits. At the end, the heart could pump at 1/4th of a normal heart rate.
It’s not operational yet, but that is a remarkable milestone on the road to possibly “grow organs”. AP video

This HTC Pharos phone runs under Windows Mobile 6. It looks small, but it has a somewhat slow processor – 200Mhz – which is arguably “good enough” to power a cellphone, right? It uses HTC’s TouchFlo interface (video), which is finger-friendly. Note: a GPS company named “Pharos” is totally unrelated to this news. From pcdebolso

If you missed Howard Stern on the David Letterman show talking about Nodoro, then you’re in luck. Here’s the clip. I’m not sure the product qualifies as a gadget, but it’s too odd not to post. Almost unbelievable but I kid you not, this is a real product for what they claim is a real problem. According to NodorO™, Male Genital Odors (MGO) is a problem that affects approximately 33 million, mostly uncircumcised, American males. The solution: NodorO™, a topical cream with the active ingredient of Clotrimazole that is applied to the “smelly” area. There is a very funny (albeit, I assume serious) FAQ page with questions like, “Will NodorO™ remove odors around my scrotum area?” and “What happens if NodorO™ gets in contact with a woman’s genitals?”. All kidding aside, the product is FDA approved and judging by the customer testimonials work great if you have MGO!
