The MacWorld Expo opened just after Steve Jobs’ keynote. The expo is spreaded over two halls: Moscone South (where these pictures were taken and where the Apple booth is as well) and Moscone West. It feels that this is the largest MacWorld ever… Check out the photo gallery and the full article on Uberpulse

The Macbook Air and Apple’s entry in the movie rental business where the big items of this keynote. The thin laptop is great, but I think that the movie rental is a much bigger deal for Apple, in the long term.
Apple stepped in (yet) another business, and while everyone talks about convergence, they actually cash-in by fixing ‘>Apple TV– at least, this is what seems (we have not tested it yet). Being able to rent a movie without the wait time caused by mailing the disc is certainly powerful -the Vudu box proved it- and if there’s something that customers would pay for, it’s convenience.
As more than ever, electronics is driven by consumers and the creation of added-value will shift from the back-end (hardware) to the front-end (user-interface/software). Some companies can’t write software or build hardware to save their lives, so mastering both aspects will provide Apple with an edge that competitors will have a hard time to match.

Apple today released the long awaited ultra-thin MacBook Air laptop. Steve Jobs used this years Macworld event to introduce the svelte 13.3″ laptop to the world. The computer is the world’s thinnest laptop. It’s tapering design is only .16″ thick in some places and .76″ at its thickest point. It is so thin that it can fit in an envelope! The machine features a standard 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB RAM, a 13.3″ LED widescreen display, magnetic latch, built-in iSight, MacBook-like keyboard with an ambient light sensor, multi-touch trackpad and 80 GB hard drive plus all the wireless connectivity you need for $1799.
The big selling point here is the ultra-thin design, but the multi-touch interface that allows you to manipulate object in much the same way as the iPhone but using the trackpad might be the most revolutionary. This will undoubtedly spawn many imitations like the iPhone as touch computing is brought to the masses.

Ross McBride came up with the idea of creating PC cases that would have a facial expression. This case looks like a blue version of one of the statues at Rapa Nui National Park (Easter Island) and I think that it might look better with a different color. I don’t think that it would sell, but as Technabob pointed out, it would be amusing to see a server room filled with these.

Take it with a grain of salt, but a forum user from MobileReader reports that the Sony PRS-505 eBook will get a firmware update next month. Here is what he wrote:
“This may not be news anymore, but I confirmed with the SONY Reader product manager at CES that there will be a new firmware for the 505 which will include the ability to properly resize PDFs inside the reader [thus, without using rasterfarian]. I actually saw this PDF functionality and it works much better than on our 500’s!” (link)
