Aigopen: the reading pen for listening to books

Aigopen: the reading pen for listening to books

[CES 2008] Aigo, the leading brand for Mp3 players, PMP and portable storage devices in China, launched this unique gadget in December for the Chinese market. Looking for distributors in the US, they are exhibiting their Aigopen at CES. By pointing the pen to an image, users can listen to the story related to this image, either in Chinese or in English. To switch from one language to the other is easy: you just need to push a button. The pen comes with earbuds and books that have been specifically printed to support this technology. The Forbidden City and some Museums in China have already ordered the pen, Aigo is hoping that book publishers and cultural organizations in the US would like to do the same. If you are a a potential client, feel free to email us, we will forward to the Business Development Managers at Aigo.

Serenata from Bang & Olufsen and Samsung: the most beautiful mobile phone… not for the U.S.

Serenata: Bang & Olufsen and Samsung mobile phone

[CES 2008] I was so happy to be able to get my hands on the Serenata yesterday! I love the form factor so much, it is so well crafted and so unique. Unfortunately this phone will not be available in the US. Equipped with the ICEpower amplifiers and 2 high quality speaker units, this phone becomes a surprisingly powerful stand alone mini speaker. The wheel feels great and gives a fluid movement to the thumb. The user interface is not very practical when it comes to enter a phone number, the idea is to have your entire phone book already stored in the device, the navigation with the wheel is then fast. It is available in Europe for 900 euros without VAT, it will not be sold in the USA, check out the technical features on the Serenata website or the UK product page

Soundcast SpeakerCast

Soundcast SpeakerCast[CES 2008] Here’s yet another wireless speaker system for indoor use (unlike the weatherproof OutCast) - the Soundcast SpeakerCast. It works in the same manner as the OutCast, except that this comes in a rectangular form factor and is definitely not waterproof, so you’d best just leave it in the living room. It is now available for $399 at a retail store near you. Check out the other specifications below :- 50-watt digital amplifierAmplified stereo speaker enclosure with two 2″ full range drivers withinFunctions on 2.4GHz band150-foot rangeIncludes iCast transmitter for use with iPodConnectivity via auxiliary input/output jackSRS 3D sound field expansion

Sony 27-inch OLED TV Prototype

Sony 27-inch OLED TV Prototype

The 11-inch OLED TV is the first commercial OLED TV and it looks great in pictures, but it is simply too small to be really interesting in a home. This 27” OLED TV prototype is much more compelling and I can tell you that the image quality is nothing short of formidable. We are a couple of years from large OLED displays, according to industry insiders and we cannot wait to get our hands on one.

Ad Notam parades mirror TVs

Ad Notam parades mirror TVs[CES 2008] Mirror TVs are old hat by now, but Ad Notam’s booth was certainly interesting to look at as they presented a fair bit of variety. The Ad Notam representative claimed that these custom displays measure anywhere from 2.5″ to 3.9″ thick while featuring low heat emission. The power source is located outside, hence the opportunity to keep temperatures low. The bathroom units are (naturally) waterproof, and the wires are all protected with a metal pipe. There isn’t any specific price tags attached to these displays, but logic dictates they ought to retail for a premium over regular LCD TVs. There’s a new feature available with their line now – a wireless bathroom mirror TV. Indulgence or necessity? You decide with your wallet.

Take a break at the Oxygen Bar

Take a break at the Oxygen Bar[CES 2008] CES is huge, so all the walking around and jostling with more than a hundred thousand folks can get pretty tiring after four days. Take five at the Oxygen Bar - I know that the Japanese have these oxygen cans on sale for quite some time now, but this is something refreshing to look at even though it is not new. Hopefully all those tired and gloomy-looking faces you see on top will brighten up once they’re done with a dose of pure oxygen.

Soundcast OutCast wireless speaker system

Soundcast OutCast wireless speaker system[CES 2008] Soundcast has rolled out its OutCast all-weather outdoor speaker system that targets music enthusiasts, and I must say the demonstration sounded pretty good. This weatherproof system has a charge time of approximately 1.5 hours (2 hours if you’re using it to play something), while it claims to last up a dozen hours even at full blast. Audio is transmitted via the 2.4GHz spectrum, and each transmitter has three frequencies to choose from. This is more a home solution than a commercial one, although you could use it in a small store if you’d like. There is a 350 foot range with this, and it works just fine with any audio device that takes advantage of the auxiliary input/output jack. The OutCast is now available for $699 a pop. Brica does 8 megapixels on its phone

Brica does 8 megapixels on its phone[CES 2008] Looks like China is catching up with the rest of the camera phone world in terms of megapixels with the Brica KT600 handset touching the 8 megapixel mark. You don’t get any sort of fancy optics with this unlike Sony Ericsson and Nokia offerings, but the KT600 ought to more than capture decent images on the go in 8 megapixel glory and the Xenon flash light. The KT600 also does video capture, but you can forget about 3G with this since GPRS is about as fast as it can go where mobile data is concerned. The FCC have not yet taken a look at this, so until then there won’t be any word on pricing or availability. HyperDrive COLORSPACE gets an upgrade

HyperDrive COLORSPACE gets an upgrade[CES 2008] Remember the HyperDrive COLORSPACE that you saw last year? Well, there is a new version that will be released this month known as the COLORSPACE O. It shares the same dimensions as the previous COLORSPACE, measuring 133mm x 75mm x 25mm while parading a new and improved QVGA LCD screen (larger, too) at 3.2″ with 262k colors. I like the automatic image orientation that is useful when you’re previewing photos of different orientations. Unfortunately, it supports 7 less memory card types compared to the previous COLORSPACE’s 18. Other than that, everything else is pretty much the same. The COLORSPACE O will hit the streets sometime this month for $249. You’ll need to supply your very own 2.5″ hard drive though. For those who are out of the loop, the COLORSPACE O is a memory card backup device that does away with the need for a computer.
