Our sister site Uberphones reports that Samsung showed the F490 and P720 in Ukraine.
The F490 has a 3.2” (240×432) touch display with tactile feedback and a 5 Megapixel digital camera.
The P720 seems to be a touch display phone as well, with a smaller display (2.6”) and only a 3 Megapixel camera, but… it has a DUAL SIM capability!

Mozilla is introducing Weave, a service that synchronizes your Firefox data (Bookmarks, preferences, customizations and passwords) between multiple devices (desktop, laptop, mobile). Weave is currently in its 0.1 version, so you can expect a few kinks here and there. It should look a little like Google Sync, but I hope that it will end up being better. Google’s sync is nor perfect, some deleted links come back and so on. It is mostly OK however.
At the moment, Weave runs only on Firefox 3.0beta2 or higher (Windows/Mac/Linux). Install from here, Mozilla forums

Millions of cell phone users will be affected when the federal government shuts down the old analog cell phone network in February, 2008. The blackout will also affect services like OnStar and some home security systems that rely on analog communications.
The shutdown date has been known years in advance, but some industries appear to have a had a problem updating their technologies and informing their customers in advance, which raises the question of whether the effects will be even more widespread the next time a network is turned off, given the proliferation of wireless technology.
People who bought into services like OnStar and home alarm systems will greatly disappointed when they learn their products will no longer work and can’t be upgraded. The best pat of this is that most of these companies knew about the change as early as 2002, but still produced products that used the doomed technology. Nice!

The top ten lists of 2007 are rolling in and Time has posted its list of the top ten viral videos of the year. At the top is the remarkable stupid Leave Britney Alone! plea from Chris Crocker. I can’t believe it has been viewed over 18 million times! At number two is the very funny sketch from Will Ferrel’s Funny or Die project, The Landlord. At number three is the funny (but sad) Miss South Carolina Teen USA clip. The rest of the top ten include the Hillary Clinton “Big Brother” attack ad, the prison “Thriller” video, and the Daft Hands clip.

It looks like 2008 is going to be the year where laptops will come with 4GB of RAM by default. This is due to the continually falling price of semi-conductor (you love it when you shop, but hate it when you own).
Before paying extra bucks, one should be aware that current 32-bit Windows (XP, Vista) can’t take advantage of 4GB of physical memory in most cases. The other issue is that 64-bit Windows has crappy driver support.
Here are a few links on the subject:

Asus is coming up with the U2, an elegant 11.1” laptop that is designed to be lighter and more power efficient. It has a LED backlit display, which is lighter and less power-hungry. But may be the most important part if saving battery life is the 32GB solid-state drive (SSD). With no mechanical parts, it consumes less than a disk-based drive. It is slightly lighter too.
In the end, the Asus U2 weighs a mere 2.75lbs – not bad at all!

SmartNav is a head-tracking device that uses your head motion to move the mouse cursor. It is installed on top of the monitor and the user has to place a dot on the forehead I’m not sure why they couldn’t track the eyes, but the dot is probably more precise, may be because the SmartNav uses a light reflection of some sort.
If you wonder, the head only moves the cursor. To click, the user has to install another accessory, such a foot pedal. Many options are available. I’ll stick to the mouse for now, but this could be useful to someone who has arm/hand/wrist related health issues.
Gaming and optical tracking are also in Natural Points’ line up. Sold by SmartHomeUSA.

Float around the globe in luxury with this modern day Zeppelin - minus, you know, the exploding part.
The Manned Cloud is yet another attempt at a giant airship. Opting this time to fill it with Helium (smart move), Massaud Studio has created the concept in cooperation with the centre of French aerospace research (ONERA). The giant blimp is a floating 60 room luxury hotel that would take travelers around the world on 3-day cruises. While these are obviously renderings of the ship, the Manned Cloud is going to be produced for real and should take to the skies (and lots of money from your pocket) in about a year. One more interior rendering after the jump.[via bornrich] (more…)

The PSX Emulator for iPhone that we mentioned earlier this month is now downloadable in version 0.1. Given that the iPhone is quite underpowered compared to a PSX (especially on the graphics side), expect the games to run slowly, if at all. As you can see, the buttons are also emulated on the iPhone’s touch-screen and I don’t have to be a genious to predict that the Tekken 10-hit combos are doing to be seriously hard to pull-off. Other than that, it’s a very interesting project form a technical view. (video in the full post)
