A 12 year old kid from Norway and his sister had an encounter with a Moose. Drawing from what he learned in the World of Warcraft (WoW) game, he first “taunted” the Moose, creating a diversion so that his sister could run away. Then he feigned death until the Moose lost interest and ran home. He learned both tactics in WoW.
Conclusion: the parents will have a hard time to get him off the game now…

A number of Asus Eee ultra-portable computers have shipped with a “Warranty Void If Removed” on the memory access door. This label might have rebuked users who otherwise wanted to upgrade their Eee with more memory (normally 1GB. Up to 2GB with hack).
Asus as confirmed that it is OK to upgrade the memory. It says: “ASUS wishes to assure its customers that merely breaking or removing this kind of seal will not void the ASUS Limited Warranty” (full press release, Asus Eee page).

Now here’s a mouse that is different from what you normally get on the market - the Space Navigator doesn’t even look like one to begin with. This 3D mouse enables you to pan, zoom, rotate and perform other tricks that a standard mouse cannot. Features include pressure sensing technology that enables the controller cap to become part of your virtual extension - you will be able to perform different functions by pushing, pulling, twisting or tilting the cap a fraction of an inch. Naturally, an increase in pressure will result in a faster speed and vice versa. This $59 mouse won’t be any good in the gaming arena, but it does sound like an interesting peripheral to have for those involved in heavy duty 3D work.

This unique Driverless Webcam definitely takes the road less traveled with its design. You won’t need any driver to get going with this, and being covered with gold paint definitely adds to its unique appeal. Performance-wise, this doesn’t have much to shout about but it ought to do enough for the everyday Joe with its 640 x 480 pixels at 30 fps and the ability to capture 1.3 megapixel stills. The inclusion of an adjustable brightness lamp allows you to use the Driverless Webcam whether day or night. Pick up this nifty little desktop addition for $11.67 apiece.

Toshiba is introducing a new line of SSD drives, coming in 3 capacities: 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. The drives will ship in volumes in March 2008, according to Toshiba. Here are the specifications:
SATA2 interface 100MB/s peak read speed 40MB/s peak write speed Average time before failure: 1,000,000 hours
SSD drives usually have better seek-time compared to disk-drives because they don’t have mechanical parts. For the same reason, they also consume less power. However, real-world reading speed might not be superior to a fast disk-drive.

Someone has ported SvSIP, a VOIP application used on the Nintendo DS, to the iPod Touch and it apparently works. Just like many other VOIP software, the SIP protocol is used to carry voice over the internet. The author of the conversion promised to publish screenshots soon.
It would be logical to think that it would eventually work on the iPhone as well.

Messiah Entertainment has rolled out the darklite integrated lightbar for the PS3, providing a blue light effect that seems to be the in thing these days. Designed to look as part of the PS3 console, you will be able to adjust just how bright the blue light LEDs glow. Why not pimp your PS3 with a little mod at the relatively affordable price of $14.99? At least the Wii won’t be the only kid on the block with a blue glow…

LaCie has a new hard drive by Neil Poulton and judging by its image, you can safely say that minimalism is just what the doctor ordered. It comes in a glossy black case along with a soft, blue glow that will thrill purists where design is concerned. The fanless cooling system adds to its list of pros where quiet operation is concerned, and you can pick from various capacities to suit your needs. These range from 320GB to 500GB, 750GB and 1TB that retail for $120, $150 and $400 respectively. I must say this is one of the sweeter external hard drives I’ve laid my eyes upon.

The Voiscan device is not only capable of scanning page after page of text, it features the ability to translate the scanned words into a spoken language of your choice. Granted, the translation probably won’t be tense and word perfect, but then again it is better than grasping at straws especially when you are in a foreign land with nary a familiar face (or accent) in sight. The Voiscan is tipped to target frequent travelers as well as the visually impaired when it is released sometime in 2008.

The 103 CompUSA stores will close right after the holidays. The computer retailer can’t keep up with the competition from both retailers and e-tailers although it tried to improve its business by providing some business services.
Unfortunately, the high prices and poor service were just too much of a drag.
