[Always On Venture Summit] I met with Vello’s President Mark Dzwonczyk at the Always On Venture Summit yesterday. When Vello launched at DEMOFall in September, I was already interested in the technology but did not have the time to publish about it. Vello is an easy to use conference call system, it is a stand alone application with no dial-in number and passcode. The user can initiate a prescheduled or an instant conference call from a computer, a Blackberry or an iPhone (only instant conference call is available from a mobile device). Today Vello is expanding its service to support international calls, allowing participants from around the world to be included in calls generated from North America. The Windows Mobile version will be available in Q1 2008. The service costs 12 cents per minute. Check out the video of the demo and the company profile.

I guess this pair of Talking Dumbbells aren’t so dumb after all - they are able to count your repetitions out loud as you work out. These weights can accommodate up to 4 pounds of water, depending on just how intensive a workout you want to have. Features include an integrated computer that does all the counting, be it reps, lifts per minute, calories burned or total workout time. Perfect for those who seem to lose count of their reps all too easily whenever a hottie walks past in the gym. The Talking Dumbbells will retail for $18.99 per pair.

Entrepreneur Andre Woods and electrician Nelson Mensch came together and figured out on constructing a solar panel that is up to 15 times more powerful that what you can find in the market today. Initial tests have shown that their solar panel is capable of producing a whopping 3,200 watts of power compared to a measly 200 watts when an an average photovoltaic solar panel is used. This is made possible by capturing all of the light in the solar spectrum - that’s more than five times what the most efficient photovoltaic cells to date can capture. Their invention will not only drive down pollution, it won’t hit your pocket too hard as an average-sized house will cost just $19,000 to convert to solar power compared to $30,000 when using conventional photovoltaics.

Sony has confirmed that its PS3 console will be getting an update sometime this month, allowing it to support Blu-ray Disc Profile 1.1. What does this new development mean for the end user? For starters, they can now enjoy picture-in-picture with their discs in addition to supporting secondary audio and video decoders. While all players shipped after 1 November are supposed to support Blu-ray Disc Profile 1.1, it remains to be seen whether PS3 consoles fall under that category or not. Well, whatever it is, do look out for the firmware update this month.

Zepto has plans to release its quad core notebook sometime next year, but other than the speculated release date, very little or nothing else is known about this rig. Zepto promises that this will be the thinnest and lightest 17″ notebook to date, weighing 3.4 kg. Chances are it will be built on the Montevina platform, and there might even be a high end video card (or two in parallel mode) thrown in for good measure. This notebook will definitely fall under the realm of a gaming notebook, and should cost somewhere from $3,000 onwards in tandem with other gaming notebooks in its class.

If you’re one of those extremely busy folks who can’t seem to stop entertaining calls on the cellphone, chances are you’d best get some sort of hands free solution for your car. Enter the Hands Free Talking Mirror - this device takes the place of your vehicle’s rear view mirror, featuring a bevy of buttons all lined up at the bottom portion. It can record up to 60 seconds of audio. It isn’t going to be cheap though, retailing for $92.48. At that price, you might as well pick up an entry level Bluetooth headset that provides hands free functionality that does not have to be limited within the car itself.

Check out this pseudo-Christmas tree at Nuevos Ministerios in downtown Madrid that features an LED display of the classic Pac-Man. Instead of gulping down fruits without chewing them, Pac-Man has replaced those with a Christmas tree, holiday bells, ribbons and stars. Looks like a pretty limited maze where ghosts can easily clamp down on everyone’s favorite pill popper once he gets to the upper section of the tree. Neat!
