AT&T Pantech Duo Review

AT&T Pantech Duo Review

A common complaint that QWERTY phone users have is that it is hard to dial a simple number with a qwerty keyboard (vs. searching a contact by name), especially while driving (well, is one supposed to do that?). Pantech believes that customers don’t have to choose between a “normal” numeric pad and a large QWERTY keyboard, that’s why it has included both in the Duo, a design that is not unique, but rare. We have put the Pantech Duo to the test to see if it really is the best of both worlds.

Test ConditionsIt’s important that you know our test conditions, so that you to figure out how much of our experience might translate with your own: The phone has been used for several days, using Push-Email (24/7), moderate web browsing and little voice usage ( <20mn/day).

Apple Store West 14th Street to open Apple’s newest retail store will be located at West 14th Street in New York’s Meatpacking District, and will open its doors officially on Friday, December 7 at 6:00 p.m. EST. This store would be Apple’s inaugural three-story store with a couple of floors dedicated to products while the third is reserved for services, including a 46-foot Genius Bar and specially cordoned areas for workshops and personal training. In addition, Pro Labs will be introduced here, allowing customers to receive free, in-depth training on Apple’s pro applications such as Final Cut Pro. There will be over 176 highly trained Mac Specialists, Mac Geniuses and Creatives to help out the most clueless of customers. Will you drop by for a visit tomorrow?

Samsung to roll out 1.3-inch HDD at CES

Samsung to roll out 1.3-inch HDD at CESSamsung announced that come January 2008, it will unveil its 1.3″ hard drive at CES 2008, targeting the mobile consumer devices market. This is a rather interesting development since Samsung is already one of the world leaders where NAND flash memory is concerned, so are they trying to diversify their portfolio even further? Guess Samsung intends to capture the whole mobile consumer device market as they will also be mass producing their own 32 Gbit NAND devices as well as improving current SSDs.

RGBY LED tabletop

RGBY LED tabletopTalk about a hi-tech tablecloth. This LED tabletop features a color changing surface, so you don’t have to worry about ever changing your tablecloth. It features an interesting chameleon-like factor, capable of detecting what color the object residing on it is, automatically adjusting its LEDs to that color. This is done via tiny clusters of photo sensors. Unfortunately, the RGBY LED tabletop isn’t being mass produced at the moment, so you won’t be able to impress friends and family this Christmas. Better find some other stuff to brag about then.

OCZ Hypersonic gaming notebooks

OCZ Hypersonic gaming notebooks OCZ has just made available its pre-built Hypersonic notebooks to consumers via online and retail outlets, bringing yet another option for those looking for a high-end, portable gaming experience. The Hypersonic gaming notebook range is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, Nvidia graphics and support DirectX 10 as well that caters for the latest games. There is no word on pricing yet at this point in time, but you can expect to pay more than fork out a premium for one. I’ve found hardcore gaming notebooks to be rather ironic as they need to be tethered to a power cable most of the time, and you can only get a couple of gaming hours at best when there is no power outlet around.

Sanho HyperDrive COLORSPACE

Sanho HyperDrive COLORSPACE The Sanho HyperDrive COLORSPACE is one interesting portable hard drive that allows you to transfer images from flash memory cards to it without the need for a computer acting as the middleman - perfect for shutterbugs who love shooting photos wherever they go, hence filling up their memory cards at an extremely fast rate. It boasts 18 different slots for all the most popular memory card formats that are available in the market, and features a 2.2″ QVGA color display, a USB data port, a DC charging socket, a user-replaceable 2.5″ IDE/PATA hard drive, and even an integrated memory card recovery tool. It is capable of making up to 120GB worth of backups before requiring a trip to the charger, but unfortunately supports hard drives that are up to 250GB in size only. Pricing ranges from $259 to $459, depending on the size of the hard drive the COLORSPACE comes with.

Windows XP for the OLPC XO system

Windows XP for the OLPC XO system Microsoft will soon run tests on the OLPC XO system with Windows XP, as the company mulls over its capability of providing a “high quality” implementation of Windows on the system that doesn’t exactly rank high in terms of performance and processing power. While there is no official confirmation of Windows XP being an option for the system, it is said that a successful trial will see the XO laptop receive Windows versions sometime in the second half of next year. The inclusion of Windows XP would mean breaching the sub-$200 price point as Bill Gates won’t be handing out copies of his beloved operating system for free.

USB key does microSDHC too

USB key does microSDHC too GreenHouse has released its GH-CRMR1-SKA USB key that comes with a built-in microSD memory card reader that is compatible with microSDHC cards as well. As with all other modern USB devices, this works with both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 protocols. It weighs a mere 0.82 grams and measures just 28mm x 15mm x 2.5mm - tiny enough to get lost easily if you’re not careful! Choose from pink, white, blue and black colors.

4GB Creative Zen Stone Plus going cheap

4GB Creative Zen Stone Plus going cheap When placed side by side, the Creative Zen Stone Plus is definitely the better option compared to the iPod Shuffle (regardless of generation). While the former might cost $10 more than the Shuffle, it does boast many advantages such as a display and quadruple the storage at 4GB. Too bad the color range is as wide as the Ford Model T. Would you pick this over the iPod Shuffle, or will the secret fanboy in your root for Apple’s offering even if it means forgoing all the mentioned extras on the Zen Stone Plus?

USB Christmas Wreath

USB Christmas Wreath Just in case there aren’t enough Christmas decorations on your desktop, there is always the USB Christmas Wreath to accompany your USB Christmas Cake hub. This wreath sports half a dozen LEDs as well as seven colors, and will most definitely look much better when you’re working in the dark instead of during the daytime. No idea on how much this thing costs, but looks like Santa and his elves are up to speed this time with technology.
