Dell is coming up with a super-high-end laptop with the WoW (world of warcraft) theme. Customers can choose the “Horde” or “Alliance” camp. Now it is not only good looking (if you are a WoW fan, that said), it also have enough horsepower to get most games to run smoothly. And for good reason, this laptop is based on the XPS M1730. WoW is not the most demanding game out there, but it’s true that it might have a good theme.
Highlights
Extreme Edition Core 2 DuoDual DX10 GPU in SLIAgeia PhysX Processor (Physics+WoW = huh?)
Available at Dell.com on Dec 10th for $4450 (or more, with options)

This remote-controlled (R/C) car is equipped with a metal detector that will beep when in proximity of metallic objects. It’s probably not the most efficient treasure-hunter tool, but if you are not going to a fortune, you might as well have fun instead. It might be a good beach toy, although I don’t know if it is sand-friendly. It is probably not water-resistant either… $80 at drinkstuff, via geekalerts.

A “Jonhx” user at forum.eeeuser.com did a mod on his EEE PC to increase the storage to 16GB and add Bluetooth connectivity. He used the internal USB ports, a Microsoft Bluetooth Adapter and a Corsair Voyager 16GB USB drive ($150) for this mod. This is a perilous mod and you should attempt it only if you can solder properly… More details here

There are times that I wished I had a flashlight in my car: to scope house numbers in a dark street or to look at something underneath a seat, among other things. The idea of having a flashlight that plugs into the car’s cigarette lighter is cool – even if you leave it for a while, charging it is easy. Granted, it takes three hours to get a full charge (that lasts for one hour of use), but first, you don’t always need a full charge. Secondly it is better than going home or to a store to get batteries. $15 at weiguosolutions.

Of course, you’ll have to work a little for it and… drink some Pepsi. The promo code will be in Pepsi’s bottle-cap, an age-old promotional tool for Pepsi and rival Coca-cola. But that’s not it, you will need five caps to get one free download… Yikes, that’s probably too much Pepsi for me. Anyhow, now you know, so happy drinking.

Here is an interesting idea: a solar billboard that generates 3.4Kw of electricity during the day (that’s in peak conditions, I guess) and sends it back to the grid. At night, it does consume electricity, also from the grid, to light itself. However, it produces more energy than it uses hence the “this isn’t a billboard. It’s a power plant” tag line.
At this point, this is just a demo, and we don’t know if billboard will massively become solar. If 3.4Kw doesn’t ring a bell, PG&E says that it’s enough to power a family of four for one day. Via Live Science

Anything gold is guaranteed to draw interest, and the same applies to these 80GB gold Zunes that will put up for sale. Only 10 will be available, so be prepared to bring your check book along when you want to purchase one of these. Unless you’re a descendant of King Midas who inherited his potent power to turn anything you touch into gold, the only way you’re going to get your hands on one would be to have a really fat bank account.

The Podium Model 1 flat panel speakers do not look like speakers at all, but instead will probably be mistaken for a lowly room divider instead. Retailing for a whopping $8,000 per pair, the Podium 1 speakers radiate sound from both front and rear surfaces, and audio emitted from it sounds more like live music than anything else. Looks pretty thin to me by any means, and chances are I wouldn’t want to have kids around this as they might just take a pencil and poke holes in it without realizing the amount of damage, both monetary and emotionally, they have done.

Elecom released its ASP-S750 speakers that take on a really unconventional design route. Targeting both MP3 player and computer markets, these active speakers look as though they’re shooting sound outwards thanks to the rectangular cannon-like form factor. Both speakers will be able to deliver an output of 2.5W × 2ch with an impedance of 180Hz - 18kHz. Powered by an AC adapter, the Elecom ASP-S750 feature volume control and power switch - too bad there isn’t any remote to go along with it. Choose from white or silver colors when they’re released in Japan at the end of this month at a yet undisclosed price.
