The Audiobyte from Axiom Audio prides itself in being the first luxuxry hi-fi computer speaker system in the world, comprising of a couple of high end, ultra-compact speakers in addition to a dedicated stereo amplifier and an optional subwoofer. There are seven speaker finishes to choose from (silver, charcoal, black or white matte-finish synthetic; high-gloss synthetic Cherry or Burled Walnut, or real-wood Burled Walnut) and packs quite a punch in terms of performance. Its standalone amp throws out 55 watts per speaker, while in-room Sound Pressure Level is 87dB - more than adequate for most dynamic audio or movie tracks. Each speaker unit measures just 6.5″ x 5.5″ x 4″, and is compatible with Apple’s iPod thanks to the Audiobyte’s USB plug. The Axiom Audiobyte retails for $349 for a couple of bookshelf speakers in standard synthetic finish, $399 in high-gloss synthetic, and $559 for the real-wood Burled Walnut model. The optional subwoofer will set you back by another $179. Strangely enough, the product cannot be found on the official site as stated in the press release at time of publishing.

Option’s iCON 225 HSDPA USB modem prides itself in being extremely tiny, targeting mass market businesses with its 63mm x 26mm x 13mm size while weighing a mere 40 grams. It offers theoretical data rates of up to 7.2Mbps, although you’ll probably get much less than that in real life. Features include quad-band EDGE, GPRS and GSM data connectivity as well as 2100 MHz HSDPA/UMTS. Not only that, the iCON 225’s Zero-CD technology enables various apps, manuals and drivers to be downloaded and installed automatically whenever it is hooked to a computer for the first time. Great for environmentalists, I say. Since it’s firmware can be upgraded, you could pretty much lump the iCON 225 under the category of ‘future-proof’.

The Breezewalk Shoes that you see here look pretty ordinary - until you realize that each pair comes with their own air-conditioning system that keeps all your little piggies cool, resulting in non-stinky socks for supple and spry feet; no matter how much time you spend at the office each day. Choose from Bureaucrat, Red Tape and Jobsworth styles to suit your current station in life. While you won’t see a mini air-cond compressor anytime soon, the Breezewalk Shoes come with patented aeration channels that circulate air around your foot without any negative effects on your stability or comfort of your walk. Strangely enough, I suppose these aren’t really what folks are looking for since the price has been marked down from $149.95 to a mere $49.95.

Word has it that the Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and giant notebook manufacturer Quanta are currently collaborating on a “virtual computer that can run without any hardware”. This sounds like Virtual Machines that would run from a server and require only a keyboard and a TV on the user’s side. If that’s true, it’s simply a poor way of communicating about this, because “running without hardware” is rather confusing and false.

At long last, the WolfKing Warrior Xxtreme has just been released, making it the first hybrid 2-in-1 PC gamepad and keyboard on the world. It boasts all the features that came with the original Warrior, with the Xxtreme throwing in a second keypad for swift command execution in MMORPGs and chatting purposes with clan mates. It can be purchased online for $79.99, featuring the original 54-key disc in addition to 40 more keys in a modified QWERTY arrangement. The backlight is “Blue Moon” in color, targeting gamers who love playing in low-light conditions while a couple of USB 1.1 ports have been included to connect a gaming mouse and a pair of headphones - no idea why they haven’t moved on to USB 2.0 ports though.

Contra 4 has just been released by Konami and can be purchased online at most major carriers, including AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. This updated classic will feature original content that is meant for the mobile platform only in order to mark the 20th anniversary of the alien-bustin’ franchise. You will get a new playable character known as Solomon Caesar in this game, and he holds the honor of being the first user-generated character to be included in a Konami game. Do expect the usual amount of thrills and spills from the Contra franchise, including the one-bullet-death concept.
