This is probably the most interesting example that shows how ridiculous electric consumption is getting in high-end gaming computers. This Thermaltake Toughpower power-supply is certified for 1500W, which can come in handy if you happen to build a multi-GPU system (up to Quad GPU + Quad-core CPU according to ThermalTake). I have to admit that it is very well built with detachable cables and a nice 140mm fan (the bigger, the quieter). The price is unknown but I suppose that if you can buy a quad-GPU and quad-core system, you won’t mind “investing” in a nice power-supply…

Rik Farrow, a security expert showed that an iPhone with a ROM older than 1.1.2 could be hacked to allow an intruder to tune in text messages, emails or conversations. The hacker does not even need to have physical access to the phone because the code can be simply uploaded via email or http by usual phishing techniques. iPhones with the 1.1.2 updates should be OK as the loophole has been closed. Nerdy video below.

Levono found a quick way to put games in its phones: it has embedded a NES emulator in the i909 phone. A gaming pad accessory, turns the i909 into a portable console capable of playing NES classics (back then, games were really fun, some would argue). It’s a pretty cool idea, although we have not tested it for ourselves. Other specs:

iRiver has set tongues wagging and imagination moving with the D27 device, with the letter “D” most probably meaning ‘dictionary’ as found in the D5. What are the specifications of the D27? Nobody knows for sure, but some of us are betting that it will come with a QWERTY keyboard right underneath the hinged surface, WiFi connectivity and maybe even HSDPA capability. Our crystal ball is out of commission at this point in time, so any reasonable speculation in the comments are fair game.

Teach your little girl how to save with the Hello Kitty ATM bank from Japan. It is actually a glorified coin box that comes with its own “Hello Kitty ATM card” that contains a PIN number, enabling you to withdraw your dough whenever you want to take advantage of a good offer at the local electronics store. The $42 price tag isn’t exactly the cheapest in the world, but still it is a novel way to keep and withdraw your money, while teaching kids about the value of persevering when it comes to saving dough.

Guess at the end of the day, price really matters as evident by the PS3 overtaking its arch-nemesis, the Wii in Japan last week. More than 55,000 PS3 units were moved compared to over 34,000 Wiis. This is most probably due to the recent $100 price cut by Sony for its 80GB model as well as the introduction of a 40GB model. This is a no-brainer, really, as a cheaper price would mean those who have been sitting on the fence all this while jumping at the opportunity to do so. As for folks in the US, we’re still waiting for the TV recording feature.

BGR has scored yet another exclusive with the Motorola ROKR E8 this time round. This handset from Motorola is known as the “morphing phone”, since it boasts a keyboard that changes based on the function that you want to make use of. For example, whenever you want to capture an image, you will be treated to zoom in and out keys, a playback key for viewing recently taken photos, and a video camera key for switching to video mode. Switching to music mode will see next and previous keys, a play/pause key, a shuffle playback key, and a repeat key. Other features include tactile feedback, a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity with A2DP support, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is no word on an official release date as at press time, but this could be just the handset to revive Motorola’s fortunes.

Redline Communications have received the FCC’s approval for its RedMAX AN-100U WiMAX base station in the US, making it the first 3.65 GHz WiMAX product to be approved for operation here. This will enable operators in the country to deploy WiMAX services using the newly-available 3.65 GHz spectrum. That’s really sweet, but what about other WiMAX devices that ought to be released in order to take advantage of the WiMAX spectrum? How much longer do we need to wait for these to arrive, or must we actually go import some from Korea? [Press Release]
