The iPhone nano is coming (Philippe Khan)

The iPhone nano is coming (Philippe Khan)

That’s the prediction of tech veteran Philippe Kahn, (who founded Borland in the 80s) now CEO of FullPower Technologies, a company with motion sensing expertise. We don’t know if this prediction is based on more than a personal feeling, but given his position in the industry, it is certainly worth listening at what he has to say.

Ever since the iPhone was announced, we thought that a “nano phone” would be the real killer (although the actual iPhone is doing very well)

On motion sensors, he said: “… the Wii and iPhone are just the beginning. Sensors will soon enable all kinds of functions, such as shaking your cell phone to pick up a call. No buttons, no fingers, just simple, natural gestures”. Well, Samsung has phones that react to gestures, but at this point it doesn’t look like gestures can be used to convince customers to drop the money.

Head to Uberpulse to get the rest of the story.

Asus Eee PC running Mac OS X

Asus Eee PC running Mac OS XThe ultra-light Macbook might be coming soon, but our friends from uneasysilence say that they have successfully installed Mac OS X Leopard on their Asus Eee PC, based on the LifeHacker tutorial. The downside is that Leopard is slow on the Eee’s processor and tiny 512MB of memory, but it works. Head to their article to see how it’s done and ask additional questions.

High-Resolution YouTube Videos “Soon”

High-Resolution YouTube Videos “Soon”

Steve Chen (YouTube’s co-founder) announced it a the NewTeeVee Live conference yesterday: YouTube’s video quality will be improved and it will adapt to the user’s connection speed. This is sometwhat similar to what Move Networks is doing.

Interestingly enough, CNET reports that YouTube stores uploaded videos in their native resolution and creates a 320×240 copy before serving them on the site.

This means that a number of videos that were uploaded in a higher resolution could be available immediately when the new format launches.

Terror fight in Japan

Terror fight in JapanNon-Japanese who enter the country from November 20th onwards will be treated as a potential terrorist the moment they arrive, so don’t be surprised when you are fingerprinted and photographed then. NEC is helping the Japanese government out with new hardware that consists of a monitor, a couple of fingerprint readers, and a camera. These devices will be installed at immigration counters nationwide, storing your biometric data for future reference. Sounds like a pretty harsh move, but when you’re paranoid about safety, anything and everything goes. Hopefully NEC’s hardware will be able to keep up with the rigors of everyday use.

Sony takes orders for OLED TV

Sony takes orders for OLED TV Sony Japan is currently taking pre-orders for its XEL-1 OLED TV, dubbed to be the slimmest OLED TV in the world, measuring a mere 3mm thin. This 11″ display will come with a resolution of 960 x 540, an amazingly high contrast ratio of 1,000,000 to 1, and an integrated digital tuner. You’ll need to part with $1,800 for this though, although you do get a 3-year warranty along with each purchase. At that price, I have a feeling most people would settle for a lovely 40″ LCD TV instead.

Solar roofing tiles from DRI Energy

Solar roofing tiles from DRI EnergyDRI Energy successfully developed roofing tiles that comes with integrated solar cells which will be branded under the Lumeta name and released in the second quarter of next year. This new breakthrough ought to see sales figures pick up since they don’t look as ugly as roofs with visible panels and will go a long way in helping folks keep their electric bill down at the end of each month. There is one major drawback to placing panels flat on the roof though - these panels aren’t as efficient when compared to others which have been tilted to optimize the sun angle, and they surely heat up faster due to the lack of an air flow under them, resulting in lowered efficiency.

HotSeats 723 Game Chair

HotSeats 723 Game Chair The HotSeats 723 Flight Simulator TRX Game Chair is yet another piece of furniture that targets gamers, and it comes complete with a 23″ HDTV widescreen LCD monitor, a 1.8GHz Dual Core processor PC, an LCD mount, Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound speakers with a remote control and subwoofer unit, Logitech wireless keyboard & mouse, cup holder for your drinks, and a swing-away console. There are four colors to choose from, and the weirdly-named HotSeats 723 also boasts an adjustable video game controller holder, adjustable sliding seat. Heck, you can even hook up other devices to its speaker system when the need arises. Once you’re done with your gaming, fold the chair, disconnect the PC where you can then use it as a desktop. Unfortunately, the $5,635 price tag puts it out of reach for most folks.

Omron HT-B453 electric toothbrush

Omron HT-B453 electric toothbrush The Omron HT-B453 electric toothbrush makes life a whole lot easier, especially when you’re dog tired at the end of the evening and just want to call it a night, being too lazy to do all the manual oral motions yourself. Capable of hitting 13,000 tranversal oscillations per minute and 30,000 vertical, you can be sure of getting the cleanest set of pearly whites in due time, and the internal battery is capable for lasting a full 30 minutes - although I wouldn’t recommend putting your teeth up to such abuse. The Omron HT-B453 electric toothbrush retails for $81.
