Yesterday, Verizon held a nice party in San Francisco’s Slide club to celebrate their BlackBerry line up, particularly the 8130 Pearl and the 8830 World Edition (both shiny and very nice, indeed). The place was packed and all the ingredients were there to make it a cool event, including good food, open bar gadget swags and BlackBerry demo phones. Look at the photo gallery for more pics.
Last week, Verizon held another event in San Francisco to present a more consumer-oriented phone line-up. We did not snap photos then, but Techie Diva has a video.

Although it is very common that Chinese manufacturers/resellers try to steal some branding thunder, I’m still amazed by the fact that they’ll stop at nothing. This phone looks like a Nokia N70 and it even uses the codename N92, to add to the confusion. To be fair, they are walking on the line, because there is no Nokia name or anything like it, but still.
Fortunately, there is one cool genuine feature: this “N92” reportedly has a solar panel.

It is really interesting that there is not a clear choice in the mid-range ($150-$200) when it comes to noise-cancelling headphones. The Bose are said to be the best, but most people don’t want to pay for them. At $330, The Sennheiser PXC 350 is priced comparatively to the Bose QuietComfort 3 and I can only trust Sennheiser to have made it at least as good or better, but I really don’t know. The Sennheiser PXC 350 comes in black or silver. Compare prices

(NewTeeVee Live) Ralph de la Vega, AT&T Group President, just spoke at the NewTeeVee Live conference. He delivered AT&T ’s vision for IPTV: the carrier goal is to connect people with their world everywhere and in any way they want. AT&T has 65 million wireless customers, 63 million wired customers, 14 million broadband customers and 2 million TV customers; it is obvious that convergence makes sense here.
According to Ralph de la Vega, the two main challenges for delivering good content to consumers is the fragmentation of the audience and the poverty of attention caused by a wealth of choices. He claims that the way AT&T delivers IPTV is well suited for the fragmented audience and that the IP protocol technology gives the ability to deliver content the way consumers want. AT&T manages to get the engagement that advertisers love so much.
Ralph de la Vega showed us the new services that AT&T is bringing to IPTV on the 3 screens: video phone call, the family finder, the flight tracker, video commerce, video on demand etc… According to him, the future of wireless content has to be licensable across the three screens (PC, TV and mobile phone), in high definition and high quality. When asked what kind of video content he watches, he admitted that he reads blogs but does not watch video blogs… hopefully his customers will.

The Fujitsu External Hard Disk Drive (yes, that’s the product name) packs a lot of storage in a small box and most importantly, it is USB-powered, so there’s only one cable to transport. This looks like a good companion, but if you are using it for backup purposes (versus data transport), I’ll tell you that, in my experience, these hard drive then to die a lot more than a fixed one inside your PC. Reasons include shocks and heat (smaller package). Loss is always a possibility, that’s why encrypting some data might be a good idea.

There are hundreds of speaker docks out there for the iPod family but the Vestalife Ladybug has more personality than most. When closed, it looks like a (not smiling) face, with big eyes but both speakers open to give you access to the MP3 player. Obviously, it charges the iPod and can run on AC or on battery. There is a nice touch that most speakers don’t have: a USB port has been integrated to sync your iPod when it sits in the speaker. This will launch in Jan 2008 at CES. Vestalife site

Asus has plans to launch the R50A in the near future, also known as the R3. No idea of its full specifications, but we do know that it will come with full computer and GPS functionality, which means you’ll be able to perform all your office tasks on-the-go without a hitch, although you can forget about indulging in graphics intensive games. Chances are pretty good the Asus R50A will make an appearance at CES 2008, so keep your eyes peeled.
