Micro microwave developed

Micro microwave developedScientists have developed a micro microwave that measures just 4mm in length and 7mm micrometers wide, making it virtually the smallest microwave ever. This won’t be able to cook your frozen chicken anytime soon though as it will most likely be used for medical “lab-on-a-chip” devices. Tests have shown that this minuscule microwave is capable of heating a drop of liquid that is roughly the same size as that of the head of a pin, and will use this microwave to control the temperature of fluid in amounts no less than a nanoliter (one billionth of a liter). Perhaps you could use this to zap pesky microscopic pests that plague poorly kept hotel beds?

Elmo gets Extra Special Edition

Elmo gets Extra Special Edition Tickle Me Elmo might have been all the rage many years ago, but subsequent dtop in sales have not killed him off just yet. This holiday season will see Fisher-Price release a new T.M.X. Elmo Extra Special Edition that houses surprises which will be revealed only when kids pose Elmo in designated positions while tickling him in the correct sequence. Looks like the Easter Egg phenomenon has now arrived in the world of toys eh? The T.M.X. Elmo will wear a gold badge to differentiate it from the standard Elmo. Hints to unlock the first surprise can be found in a special song, while additional hints will be available online in the coming weeks after its November 13th release. Each T.M.X. Elmo Extra Special Edition will retail for $39.99, and this looks like a good opportunity to make some fast cash on eBay.

Rabie robot has no rabies

Rabie robot has no rabiesThe Rabie network robot from ETRI looks out of this world, but features experimental technology that allows it to express up to seven different emotions such as happiness, sorrow and even surprise. The Rabie is capable of being a babysitter as it plays with your kids - hopefully it has been constructed tough enough to hold up against the rigors of those who are still in their terrible threes. Emotion is conveyed via the emoticon display located in its eyes. You won’t see the Rabie appearing on store shelves anytime soon as it is meant for research purposes at this point in time.

Mushroom floor lamp

Mushroom floor lampThe Mushroom floor lamp looks good enough to eat, and was so-named due to its obvious design that references one of nature’s best tasting food (IMHO anyway). Each Mushroom floor lamp is illuminated by interchangeable and adjustable LEDs embedded in their gills, and features the flexibility of being placed as a single unit or in a cluster for a more fungified effect, depending on your home improvement taste.

Samsung SGH-T578H Multi-Mode phone

Samsung SGH-T578H Multi-Mode phoneSamsung has teamed up with NXP Semiconductors and T3G Technologies to roll out the first TD-SCDMA HSDPA/GSM/GPRS/EDGE multi-mode cellphone in the world, known as the SGH-T578H. This nifty little handset can achieve a theoretical maximum data transfer rate of 2.8Mbps, which translates into downloading a handful of high quality MP3 files in under a minute. It is the industry’s first soft modem that is powered by NXP’s Embedded Vector Processor (EVP) which results in high data transfer and multi-mode capability. There is no word on pricing, but this China-centric phone (TD-SCDMA network deployments have been completed in 10 major cities across China) looks set to take off in a big way, especially when you have over 70 million potential subscribers lying around.

Volcano Digit goes hi-tech

Volcano Digit goes hi-techThe Volcano Digit boasts a digital display that shows you the exact temperature at which your weed is currently being cooked - something that will definitely blow away your smoking partners even before they’re all tripped up. The Volcano Digit claims to be accurate up to ± 1.5°C of the perfect vaporization temperature, where big bright LEDs display its progress, enabling you to keep up with its progress no matter what your current state of mind is like. It ain’t cheap though, retailing for $669 but at the very least there is a pretty lasting novelty appeal to the entire device.

Tree-shaped PC picks up award

Tree-shaped PC picks up award The Cultivate - the Sustainable Living Computer has picked up the Dyson Ireland Student Design Award as well as a cool €2,000. The idea behind this tree-shaped PC helps keep the earth green as you will be able to upgrade the computer in different parts, which are placed in its “branches” with the motherboard located in the trunk of the tree. This means as upgrades are made, the tree will grow accordingly. Silver aluminum also acts as its external heatsinks while looking like “leaves” - fulfilling a twofold purpose simultaneously.

Lexar to ship new CF card reader

Lexar to ship new CF card reader Lexar will soon ship its new memory card reader that comes with one UDMA-compatible CompactFlash slot and one SDHC-compatible SD card slot. I must say the design looks totally rad unlike many other yuck-tastic offering in the market these days, featuring an integrated cover for the card slots. Pressing the buttons on the sides of the reader will pop up its middle portion, making both slots accessible. Once you’re done, push the middle section down in order to cover all slots, keeping things looking neat and tidy while making sure no dust enters the slots. It hooks up to a computer via USB, courtesy of its mini-to-full-size USB cable. The Lexar Professional UDMA Dual-Slot USB reader is tipped to arrive at stores around November 15 with a recommended retail price in the region of $45.
