Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 Review

Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 Review

As we said before, it’s been a while since we got excited by a webcam, but a demo of the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 has caught our attention. Equipped with a Carl Zeiss optic (which also sells optics to Sony and Nokia, among others), this webcam has a very good image quality - much better in fact than the Quickcam Pro 4000, the Logitech webcam that I owned before I switched to the Apple iSight.

Is the Quickcam Pro 9000 as good as it sounds? And most importantly, how does it stack up against Logitech’s marketing pitch? Read the full review to see if the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 is for you.

Eyeglasses provide directional sensitivity

Eyeglasses provide directional sensitivity

These eyeglasses can amplify the sound coming from the front, while filtering out noise from the back, thanks to its array of microphones. This is called “directional sensitivity” because it improves the sound coming from where the wearer looks at. This is not meant to be a spy device, but it could help the elderly to focus on a particular sound event or conversation. In you wonder, the batteries are located in the arms.

This prototype was made by Philips and the Delft University of Technology.

PlayStation 3 Firmware 2.0

PlayStation 3 Firmware 2.0 It might sound like a big deal, but it’s really not: the new PS3 firmware brings small improvements like customizations, user music and photo lists and most importantly gives your partial control of the PS3 via a Sony PSP handheld console. The PSP can also serve as an “extender” to access media files over the web.

It could be cool if Sony decided to release the TV recording feature in the U.S. A music “rental” system would have been a nice feature too.

DeLighTable Pressure Sensitive Table Lights Up

DeLighTable will light up when there’s pressure applied to the surface (something as light as a key will set it off). The video shows how it works and the concept is quite interesting, but at the moment, the design isn’t good enough and the price is too high. Hopefully, they can improve on both quickly.

Oki high-flex hi-speed LAN Cable

Oki high-flex hi-speed LAN Cable Oki Electric has just launched the first shielded high-bending resistance Cat.5e LAN cable in the industry, a development that achieves high flexibility and high-speed transmission for gigabit Ethernet use. This new cable aims to usurp conventional LAN cables that have low flexibility, making the latter difficult to transmit images over industrial internal wiring as well as high-sliding environments found in robots. Oki’s offering, on the other hand, uses a special cable structure with a high-flex design that boasts steady performance regardless of bending burden, making it possible to achieve high-bend, high-sliding and high-twisting performance that is ideal for use in moving parts.

Elpida DDR2 SDRAM uses 65nm process

Elpida DDR2 SDRAM uses 65nm process Elpida Memory has successfully developed a 1-Gigabit DDR2 SDRAM based on new 65nm process technology, making it one of the smallest chip products in the world. This comes after Elpida mass produced the industry’s first DRAMs using the 70nm process technology in December last year, experiencing rather large amounts of cost reductions. Guess this move will see even further savings as 65nm production commences this December, with mass production to begin in Q1 next year.
