I, Grobot

I, Grobot I, Grobot is an interesting parody of Isaac Asimov’s work, I, Robot. He is actually a planter that stands approximately 4″ tall, featuring a grass head that adds another two to three inches in height when fully grown. I, Grobot retails for under $13 and makes the perfect office gift.

Sony Ericsson releases K660 in UK

Sony Ericsson releases K660 in UK The Sony Ericsson K660 has just been released in London today, being one handset that has been optimized for Web browsing with its navigation key acting as a ‘magnetic mouse pointer’, mimicking your PC browsing experience. You can choose to browse in landscape mode (which will be much better on your eyes, trust me), while zooming in on text and images. Other features include a 2 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, stereo Bluetooth connectivity, an integrated FM radio, video streaming, a sound recorder, video calling, and a M2 memory card slot. Each purchase will come with a 256MB M2 memory stick, but you can only bring one of these puppies home in Q1 2008.

Sony Ericsson MD300 3G Modem

Sony Ericsson MD300 3G Modem

The MD300 is a broadband modem that works on 3G GSM networks (like Cingular’s). With it, users can connect to the internet from wherever coverage is available. Because 3G coverage could be spotty outside of major cities, it works with EDGE as well. The modem will be commercialized early next year.

Note that many 3G phones can also function as a modem.

Rumor: Apple Tablet confirmed by Asus

Rumor: Apple Tablet confirmed by Asus

Rumors about an upcoming Apple tablet have been going back and forth, but this time, Asus (a major contract manufacturer for Apple) has been reportedly confirming what many were hoping was true. What is certainly true is that Apple has patented something “tablet-like” a while back and may be all the research around pressure sensitive touch-screens aren’t only for the next iPhone. Tablets have more or less been a flop, because quite frankly they are not so practical, but the question is: would people buy them in mass if they were shiny?

Nokia claims to have nailed the “perfect feedback touch screen”

Nokia claims to have nailed the “perfect feedback touch screen”

Our friends from RedFerret have tested Nokia’s latest feedback touch-screen and they say that it’s good. Nokia’s new tech gives users the sensation of pressing a physical touch/button when interacting with the display. Here is their first impression:

“One thing I can say is that this is the first technology I’ve seen and played with which could genuinely revolutionise the use of handheld devices in general. The ability to touch type at reasonable speeds on a touchscreen is something which every phone, PDA and handheld computer manufacturer would give their right arm for, and it looks as though the technology is about to reach the marketplace with a bang. I can’t wait.” Go to RedFerret for more details.

MotoPure H12 Bluetooth Headset

MotoPure H12 Bluetooth Headset

My late Motorola HS850 headset left a bitter taste in my mouth (it was so bad), but I have to admit that the MotoPure H12 has caught my curiosity. The design is much better and of course, Motorola promises a great audio experience, simple pairing and the usual blah blah associated with Bluetooth headsets. We don’t know if the product will hold its promises, but it is worth looking at.

KSD Windows keep the heat in… or out

KSD Windows keep the heat in… or outThe good thing with new homes is that insulation is usually good. Some places are equipped with windows that prevent the sun from warming up the inside, but in places where temperatures vary a lot between seasons, getting more warmth in winter time is actually a good thing. The KDS solar window lets users choose if they want the sun’s warmth to be repelled or not by simply changing which side of the window is facing the exterior. It is simple and effective.

BodyBugg calorie counter

BodyBugg calorie counter The BodyBugg armband is actually a calorie counter that utilizes bio-feedback sensors in order to provide a continuous running total of calories burned. It will be able to hold a maximum of a dozen days’ worth of data, so make sure you download all of that to a computer via USB before it overwrites older data. The BodyBugg is powered by a single AAA battery and has an optional wristwatch type display unit, retailing for $399 ($479.95 with the display). Would be nice to see the BodyBugg rely on kinetic energy to power it like Seiko watches instead of a battery, forcing the user to burn even more calories in the process.

Oakley Split Thump Review

Oakley Split Thump Review

Oakley has improved the Thump Pro (read review) MP3 sunglasses design: the Split Thump has removable earphones that turn them into “normal” sunglasses when the music player function is not needed. The MP3 control buttons have also been hidden in the Oakley logos on each side, a very nice touch in my opinion. Like the Thump Pro, the Split is designed for sports and is sweat-resistant and holds on the head pretty nicely, provided that your head is big enough – it comes in one size only

AudioI was surprised to see that the sound quality has been perceptibly improved since the Thump Pro, which was quite OK already. It’s hard to describe it with words, but the difference is large enough so that the average person can hear it.

Concrete speakers from Taiwan

Concrete speakers from TaiwanCheck out these concrete speakers that hail from Taiwan, known as 25togo. It is said that the cement and glass used in this speaker’s construction helps project a clean yet powerful sound profile. Angled corners also go a long way in providing you with the flexibility of placing them just about anywhere you like without having them look out of place. No idea on how much it costs, but at least you know you have something heavy to hurl at sneaky thieves in an emergency.
