Inflight Internet trend for next year

Inflight Internet trend for next yearWhat do you think will be the hottest news in the techno-sphere next year? Some people would probably advocate AirCell, air-to-ground technology that will pioneer the launch of inflight broadband connectivity on commercial airlines. This will definitely be a boon to businessfolks as well as those who have a penchant for checking their email every five minutes. Productivity levels will soar to new heights (both literally and figuratively) as work gets done in the air, leaving executives even more exhausted when they touch down at their destination. Major US airlines like American Airlines and Virgin America will be outfitted with AirCell’s lightweight antennas to enable the BlackBerry Brigade and Laptop Lieutenants to work themselves to death no matter where they are. There is no word on the pricing structure yet though, but it shouldn’t be cheap to begin with.

Toshiba releases Vardia RD-A301

Toshiba releases Vardia RD-A301Toshiba has just released the Vardia RD-A301 that comes with an internal 300GB hard drive, allowing you to record HD video on it or on HD DVD media in MPEG4 AVC/H.264 formats. Not only that, you’ll be able to record on regular DVDs and DVD-RAM as well, increasing its versatility. Unfortunately, there is only a single HDMI output on the Vardia RD-A301, but it does come with a D4, an Ethernet port and S-Video ports among others. The Vardia RD-A301 retails for approximately €600, which is pretty reasonable considering the features it has. Would be better if it was a hybrid player though…

In addition, the headphones feature Amethyst Crystals throughout as well as a luxury box and small carrier bag. Embarq makes home phone cool

Embarq makes home phone cool Embarq is offering a new service that enables the home phone and wireless phone to work closely in tandem, helping customers to miss less calls while using fewer wireless minutes and stay connected. The Together Plan Plus integrates it with the customer’s wireless service, enabling them to control when and where to take the call, in addition to which phone they want to use courtesy of Embarq’s Find Me/Follow Me with Call Transfer capabilities. Sounds like a double edged sword to me, as this service makes it easier for you to be reached by other people - and some of us have entertained more than enough phone calls at the office already.

Pirates go online

Pirates go online

Avast, me hearties! Disney Onlne has just announced its new Pirates of the Caribbean Online MMOG that will run on both PC and Mac platforms, allowing thousands of players to experience the swashbuckling world that captured the imagination of the world across three years in a captivating trilogy. The game will focus on both action and adventure, featuring a ton of customization options that will cater to a large audience who have different tastes and likes. In the game, you’ll be able to create and customize your own pirate, captain your own ship, and assemble a crew, all in the name of becoming the Caribbean’s most legendary pirate. Subscriptions to unlimited access require a first-month fee of $4.95, followed by a $9.95 monthly fee after that. Sounds interesting, but it probably won’t dethrone WoW anytime soon. More features on the game are available after the jump.

50 Cent gets his ride souped up

50 Cent gets his ride souped upHarman Consumer Group has taken its JBL brand and outfitted rapper 50 Cent’s Pontiac G8 performance sedan with a massive 800-watt JBL audio system - the JBL PX600. What you get with this monstrosity include a couple of two-channel amps and two 12″ JBL P1222 subwoofers. This audio system was installed by Unique Autosports, and 50 Cent’s souped-up ride will be on exhibition at the 2007 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. I guess it pays to be famous - other people are willing to throw money your way just so you will be able to endorse their products, while the working class folk like you and I slog through day after day to lust after these endorsed items.

Dual-person scooter coupe

Dual-person scooter coupe Check out this two-person scooter coupe that definitely looks as though it has traveled from the future to the present. This vehicle can achieve a maximum of 30 mph courtesy of its 50cc air-cooled 4-stroke engine, but is relatively safe since it runs on a trio of wheels. It measures 56″ wide and can be carried around in a 5’ x 8’ trailer or towed behind your RV/SUV. The 1.5 gallon fuel tank affords you a maximum operating range of up to 100 miles for two riders - talk about being super economical! Unfortunately, I’d only recommend this for use during dry spells as it doesn’t look as though you’ll be kept dry when the heavens open up. Features include independent all-wheel suspension, shock absorbers, front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. No idea on how much it costs though.

Sharp solar electricity systems in CA

Sharp solar electricity systems in CA Sharp has developed solar electricity systems that will be used for all residences in Clarum Homes’ new Hamilton Park community in Menlo Park, California. These new Clarum Homes will use Sharp’s OnEnergy solar systems as standard features, ensuring clean and renewable solar energy is used without polluting the environment further. These solar-powered homes have sold pretty well recently despite the subprime shadow looming over the economy, where 44 out of 77 Hamilton Park homes have already been purchased since this summer with fair number of people having moved in. This new solar electricity system helps homeowners save up to 50% more in their monthly utility bills, which adds up to a considerable amount over a lifetime. Is solar-efficiency a prerequisite when you’re considering your new home?
