The small rechargeable device - it has a 15-hour battery - fits neatly into a pouch inside the jacket. You switch it on when you leave the house and what you get is nothing less than the ability to know where someone is - within four square metres - anywhere in the world. You can watch them move, check where they’ve been and get updates every 10 seconds. Even better is the fact that you do not need to be sitting in front of your computer 24/7, since you can always choose the option to have email alerts arriving in your BlackBerry or cellphone inbox. The Children’s GPS tracker jacket will retail for £250.
The Evolve Wireless Sound System for the iPod consists of a charging station as well as a couple of cube-shaped wireless speakers that have a working range of up to 150 feet. They are powered by internal lithium ion batteries, working for up to 10 hours at a stretch before a recharge is required. You aren’t limited to just two speakers since you have the option to add on more speakers, and they’re shipped with individual network IDs for you to know which is the left or right speaker. The Evolve Wireless Sound System will retail for $300, and is compatible with a wide range of iPods including the recently released iPod Touch.
Voyeurs will definitely love the Canon Snap concept, being diminutive enough to wear on your finger and yet offering enough megapixel power that matches some of today’s better cameras. It does not have any fancy pants LCD display for you to sift through a list of option, but features a single button interface instead for easy photo snapping according to your whims and fancies. Designed by David Münscher, this is one of the more outrageous digital camera designs to be released in a long time.
A patent for a wireless SMS keyboard that comes with a complete set of alphanumerical keys have been filed, being laid out on a flexible silicone rubber panel. This keyboard works like a normal hardened version, save for the fact that it can be rolled up and stored in a small space when not in use. Each of these wireless SMS keyboards will come with a near-field communication coupling system that is capable of detecting the presence of a nearby cellphone, where letters typed on it will be transmitted sans wires to a compatible cellphone, enabling you to reply text messages faster than the traditional thumb method. Pretty neat, eh?
Runco has just released its WP-42HD weatherproof LCD TV that comes with special element-proof bonding to deliver a high-definition widescreen flat-panel monitor ready for the elements. Unfortunately, it won’t feature full HD support with a native resolution of 1,366 x 768, and comes with Runco’s exclusive Vivix internal video processing for outstanding imagery, artifact-free scaling and pristine reproduction of both native film and native video formats (480p, 720p, 1080i), IP56 weatherproof standards, a wide viewing angle of 178 degrees, internal settings that operate in even in -4°F environments (I’d rather be inside warming up to a hot cup of chocolate while toasting marshmallows over a fireplace), digital DVI with HDCP input and a multimedia RGB/computer input. The Runco WP-42HD will be released this November, retailing for a whopping $8,995.
Kena Kai has just released unique cord management cases for iPod Video owners, but only 30GB models will fit these new cases, with 60GB and 80GB versions in the works. In addition, there will also be a variety of such cases that cater to the iPod nano as well, and will come in a wide range of colors on embossed crocodile and ostrich material. With the integrated cord management feature, you no longer need to worry about a tangle of headphone cords in your bag or pocket, allowing you to adjust the length of the cord that you want free to suit whatever situation you’re in. Generally, most full-size iPod cases retail for $29.99 while nano cases are a tad cheaper at $24.99. Interestingly enough, purchasing the Pink iPod case will see every single cent being donated to breast cancer research and not just a portion like how other companies do.
Dell has just made available its XPS 420 desktop for sale, with prices retailing between $1,500 to $2,500 depending on the different configurations within. Each purchase will be accompanied by a 20″LCd display. There will be three models available - “Media Powerhouse” being the entry level version (Intel Core 2 Duo), “Performance and Productivity” occupying the middle (Intel Core 2 Duo), and “Ultimate Entertainment” being the top dog, boasting an Intel Core 2 Quad Core processor running at 2.4GHz. Hard drive sizes range between 320GB and 500GB depending on your choice of computer, with the Ultimate Entertainment model featuring a Blu-ray drive. Shared specifcations include Windows Vista Home Premium, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, 2GB RAM, a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and a 13-in-1 memory card reader.
If you’re a sucker for all things limited edition, then this Zune from Microsoft ought to capture your attention. Dedicated to the Latin artists Wisin y Yandel, this limited edition Zune will be on sale from 29 October onwards at Wal-Mart stores with a price of $200. Each purchase will come with a pre-loaded album of Wisin y Yandel, music video clips and concert footage, making the couple of Benjamins you drop on this Zune well worth it. I for one, will be first in line for a limited edition Smashing Pumpkins Zune.
Sony has just expanded the Cybershot range with the DSC-T2, bringing along 4GB of internal memory in this 8 megapixel shooter. That’s a whole lot of memory, doing away with the need to purchase and manage multiple media cards. To get an idea on how much space 4GB can afford you, how does 40,000 VGA-quality photos or 1,000 8 megapixel pictures sound to you? In addition, organizing your photos is a snap courtesy of the camera’s album folder, allowing you to view images in chronological order in a helpful calendar view. Each DSC-T2 comes pre-loaded with Sony PMB Portable software that allows you to publish photos and videos directly to websites such as Crackle, Flickr, Photobucket, Shutterfly, and YouTube. Other features include a touchscreen anti-reflective display, a “smile shutter” function for great portrait shots, face detection, optical image stabilization, high sensitivity (ISO 3200), a slideshow function, and various effects.
