Samsung Blackjack 2 Hands-On

Samsung Blackjack 2 Hands-On

Being long-time Blackjack users (read our Blackjack review), we had to play with the BlackJack 2. Let me tell you that it is a sexy phone. Samsung evolved its previous thin design by making it look classier, thanks to a new coating. I especially like the red version, which shows the new surface a lot better. The back of that version feels like a faux-leather, which is nice, I thought.

Among the other physical improvements, one can find a better QWERTY keyboard and a scroll wheel that replaces the jog on the right side of the original Blackjack. The phone feels fast and Windows Mobile 6 looks better in everyway compared to its predecessor. Inside, a GPS will come handy when used with Google Maps.

If you’re a Windows Mobile fanatic, you should check the iMate 9502, 8502 and i-mate’s plan to create a “Foleo-like” display/keyboard combo.

Epson all-in-one LCD touchscreen

Epson all-in-one LCD touchscreen Epson has just introduced its all-in-one LCD touchscreen display that comes with an integrated cover and touch panel. There will be 3.1″ and 7″ variations boasting WVGA resolution as well as Epson’s trademark Photo Fine Vistarich technology that makes it possible to view the screens even at extreme angles. No idea on when this new LCD touchscreen technology will make it to consumer electronics, but sooner would be much better than later for obvious reasons. Touch is the way of the future, hopefully newer devices will introduce even greater functionality.

LG releases 32-inch plasma TV

LG releases 32-inch plasma TV I’m not too sure what you’d want to do with a 32″ plasma TV since at that size there really isn’t any obvious advantage over LCD technology, but LG has gone ahead and released its 32PC5RV 32″ plasma TV in Brazil this month, to be followed by a worldwide roll-out to 27 countries by November. Touted to be the smallest and slimmest plasma TV available, the 32PC5RV comes with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and an amazing response time of 0.001ms. That’s really fast - great for action movie buffs as well as those who live and breathe sports programs.

Barbie BAR710 iPod docking system

Barbie BAR710 iPod docking systemBarbie has brought along her eclectic pink color to an iPod docking station known as BAR710. Not only do you get audio pumping out from its eye-gouging pink speakers, the BAR710 also comes with a digital clock function and a 4-digit LCD readout display. Audiophiles are highly recommended to avoid this at all costs since you would probably get puny sound, but little Rachel would definitely love it, inviting Ken over for a little tea party with romantic music playing in the background.

Hitachi looks toward steering wheels

Hitachi looks toward steering wheelsNo, the company isn’t planning to integrate some audio system into your car’s steering wheels, instead it hopes to incorporate its own finger vein authentication system that has already made its way to computers and ATMs. This system works on the principle where every finger has a unique vein configuration that can be read by near-Infrared light along with image sensors. This helps keep your car secure, and allows you to customize the various vehicle settings such as air conditioning, chair position and radio station presets simply by referring to the profile based on your veins. Guess the whole vehicle will need to be electronically advanced in order to remember those different driver profiles, so the majority of vehicles with manually-operated seats and air conditioning systems won’t be able to benefit from this.
