The Japanese really know how to live it up with a 2008 calendar that’s made out of pure gold. It was originally slated to have a price tag of approximately $173,732 after conversion, but due to recent gold prices that has soared, it will retail for approximately $259,560. The entire golden calendar measures 67cm x 42cm and weighs approximately 6kg. No worries about not being able to make use of it after the next year is over since you can always melt the whole calendar down and fashion it as jewelry instead. Behind the calendar includes printed images from the picture scroll of the “Tale of Genji”. The calendar will be produced in a quantity that is proportionate to demand.

Racing simulator enthusiasts will definitely love the D-Box GP-200 as it boasts a bucket seat just like the real thing (minus the four tires and the rest of the car, of course). Not only that, it is fitted with five speakers as well as three hydraulic jacks which simulates racing action onscreen. Games like rFactor and Flight Simulator X will definitely be the perfect fit for it, although the sticker price of $16,425 makes it prohibitive for just about everybody. Unfortunately, all the money in the world won’t be able to buy you compatibility as the GP-200 lacks support, with the ones mentioned being the only titles supported at this point in time.

Tesco will be launching the Trim Trolley that aims to help people work out while they shop - as though shopping isn’t tiring enough already. How do these trolleys give shoppers a work out? For starters, they’re much heavier than standard shopping trolley and get harder and harder to push as the levels increase. These levels are depicted by the amount of calories a shopper has burned up as shown on the screen. Not only that, the very same display shows the pusher’s heart rate for those who are interested to have a higher level of detail in their shopping experience. I wonder whether encouraging folks to exercise while shopping would influence their shopping list.

The new Dash Express for which we had the an exclusive hands-on recently just got better: it will display 3rd party or user-generated geo-data feeds available from the web (it’s a connected GPS system). Zillow is an example cited by Dash (the company) but there will be many others. You can imagine something like housingmaps in the car with the Dash Express and of course, the possibilities are endless. Dash goes to the next level and raises the bar for all GPS navigation systems. Now the static and limited points of interests (POI) seem so yesterday. Look at the photo gallery.

You know what they say - if Jack can’t go to the mountain, why not bring the mountain to Jack? That’s exactly what plane fanatic John Davis did, building a jumbo jet cockpit so that he’ll be able to “fly” around the world. His spare bedroom has been transfored into a jumbo jet cockpit, boasting a giant screen with a bird’s eye view of continents courtesy of £15,000 worth of electronics that recreate every switch and sound on a Boeing 747. Not only is this flight simulator his passion, it is also a method for him to make money as he charges £65 for an hour and £95 for two. A four-hour session will cost £220 that includes a couple of those for training as well as a simulated flight from Birmingham to Amsterdam.

Audi aims to wow with their latest concept device that not only functions as a cellphone, it also doubles up as an MP3 player, a vehicle control system, and an input for the car’s navigation system. The handset itself will be able to connect to the Internet using WiFi and 3G UMTS technology depending on the situation you’re in at the moment, and it is also capable of receiving snapped images of any intruders who enter the vehicle courtesy of the integrated vehicle camera system. It is but a concept at this point in time, so it remains to be seen whether this will make its way into a production vehicle.

Now isn’t this just the mouse to have for the man in your life who has much more brains than brawn? The Gold Brain Mouse comes in the shape of a brain, although it is ergonomic enough for everyday use. Definitely meant for office and casual use only, as hardcore gamers will probably have to look elsewhere to exact a better performance. The dpi count is rather disappointing at 520. You can pick up the Gold Brain Mouse for £19.99 a pop.

Nokia announced its new N810 tablet at Web 2.0 Summit and… it doesn’t have a wireless phone capability. When I asked why at the Nokia booth, I did not get a clear answer. Instead I got a vague “it is a device aimed at WiFi users”… Isn’t that surprising for a cell phone company? Shouldn’t a device that is “always with you” also be “always connected”?
We published about the Nokia N810 yesterday (breaking news, hands-on) and Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Multimedia (phew, what a long title!), said on stage that mobile phones were all going to become pocket computers (we agree), and that Nokia will have an important role in the making of tomorrow’s web.
In his talk, Anssi Vanjoki said that Nokia created the tablet product line for the “hardcore geeks” and that the company is on its way to build devices for a broader range of consumers in the future. This is step 3 of 5 in Nokia’s strategy.
