Nokia N810 Hands-On

Nokia N810 Hands-On

In its Web 2.0 Summit event, Nokia said: “We are competing w/ Apple on all fronts and firing on all cylinders” and “We have very deep philosophical differences with Apple… we’re open” (Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President and General Manager). That is not a surprising message from the cell phone leader to a skillful new challenger - at least things are clear now.

In the full post, you will get details about, the availability and the longer term strategy of Nokia. Please also check our first Nokia N810 article that contains the specs.

Battery life (according to Nokia)

2 days of “normal use” (err… define what is normal use) 4 hours of intense use 5 days in stand-by mode

Japan trivia on Nintendo DS

Japan trivia on Nintendo DS Since the Nintendo DS hails from Japan and is currently doing extremely well there in terms of sales, it makes perfect sense for a new game created by Mainichi and Sega that tests your knowledge of Japanese news online. The game will obviously be in Japanese only, so you can forget about importing a copy and having a fun time with it unless you understand Japanese. Perhaps there is the possibility of a localized version across the Pacific? Some of the questions include Shinzo Abe’s catch phrase as well as the newest, coolest airport in Japan. Do you think such games that tickle the mind will be the mainstay titles in the future where gaming is concerned?

Genfen Fiber Optics USB Extender

Genfen Fiber Optics USB Extender

Most people can do with USB cables that are 6 feet or so long and if you go out on a limb, you can plug HUBs and extensions up to 20m, according to our friends from Everything USB. Beyond that, you might need the GeFen 400FO USB Fiber-Optics Extender that can keep the signal going for up to 500 yards! Well, that might be a long distance to put your printer at, but hey, you might want to store all your USB drives in the basement of your 6-level home, who knows?

It works just like a regular HUB, but costs $16,000…

Mouse in a mouse

Mouse in a mouseGross me out with this computer mouse that comes with actual body parts of what was once a sewer rat. This little DIY project requires you to pick up a tiny travel-size mouse (the computer peripheral and not the pest), followed by a similarly-sized mouse from your local pet store. Since it is easier to fit a small object into a large mouse instead of otherwise, it would be better if the former was smaller than the latter. Any extra space left over can always be filled with cotton balls. All I know is I can’t really get any work done with this mouse since my stomach would churn whenever I look at it, let alone touch it.

Talking Digital Hand Grip

Talking Digital Hand Grip They say a firm handshake is essential when you’re trying to make a good impression, so why not clock up some practice minutes with the Talking Digital Hand Grip? This device is actually capable of announcing just how good your grip is getting, reading out loud results such as the number of grips performed, your grip force (current and total), as well as maximum grip force (choose from kg or lbs). I suppose if you spend enough time with this device, not only will you end up with a winning handshake, but your dexterity level would increase as well. The Talking Digital Hand Grip retails for $12.99 a pop.

SanDisk 8GB SDHC Card

SanDisk 8GB SDHC Card

If you use a camcorder that is compatible with the SDHC (SD High Capacity) flash cards format, SanDisk has released an 8GB called SanDisk Extreme III. That sounds a lot more exciting that what it is, but we’ll forgive SanDisk, for this time.

Anyhow, the card will be bundled with a reader and should retail for $180 ($22.5/GB) in the U.S. A European version should be available too. As a reference, 4GB SDHC cards can be found for $40 ($10/GB).

French iPhone to be unlocked!

French iPhone to be unlocked!

French law lets customers opt for an unlocked iPhone. The phone will obviously be more expensive than the subsidized version (399 euros), but at least users won’t have to crack it every couple of weeks.

Amusingly enough, the unlocked iPhone is called “Naked iPhone” by Orange, meaning that it comes without a service contract. Orange has declined to mention the price of the unlocked version. French laws require that any phone sold with a service plan should also be made available without the plan.

Displays fold up when not in use

Displays fold up when not in useGamers love the biggest, fastest, and best of everything, and when it comes to monitors, the same rule as plasma TVs apply - the bigger, the better. I know I would definitely frag (kill is too strong a word) for this multi-screen monitor that you see here - it can fold up into one neat package when not in use. Great if you want to brag at the latest LAN party, although this ACME-designed solution is actually meant for server administrators. When it is folded, both the display and keyboard are able to fit into a 3-rack unit mount which can slide in and out of server rack space at your convenience. A 2008 shipping date has been tipped for this multi-screen monitor, but details on pricing are as scant as a ninja disappearing in a smoke bomb.
