polls - Take Our Poll
We came up with a list of 10 gadgets that you might want to offer/receive for Christmas (to be published soon). Among the gadgets that did not make the “Uber10” list, we’d like to ask you to choose one that will be included as the “People’s choice”.
Don’t just go for the most expensive one, it has to be something that you would be ready to buy for someone too!

The Terpstra keyboard controller that you see here gives me a headache whenever I look at it - just take a glance at the insane amount of keys to be pressed and you’ll know what I mean! It resembles more like a flattened beehive than anything else, but thankfully there aren’t any angry bees flying around waiting to sting me. All 280 keys on this thing are “velocity sensitive”, supposedly providing the user with more control flexibility when handling microtonal music. Sounds pretty deep to me.

Fujitsu has a new workstation in the form of the Celsius N460 that is available as a Build To Order unit. Inside lies an Intel X38 Express chipset, powered by an Intel Core 2 Quad 6700 2.66GHz processor, an Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE graphics card, and 1GB RAM among others. In addition, the N460 also comes with an HDD encryption security feature. I’d say the first thing most folks would aim for would be the RAM upgrade, followed by the video card if you want to exact some sweet performance on the N460 where games are concerned. You can choose between Windows XP 32 or 64 and Windows Vista Business 32 and 64 while making your purchase.

Halloween is just around the corner, so why not carry out this year’s trick or treat sessions without causing even more damage to the environment? Among the greener products you could use to celebrate this festival would include a solar-powered gargoyle that stands at 8″ tall, a solar-powered pumpkin statue light to welcome the little ones home without burdening your monthly power bill, and even a gargoyle flashlight that runs off energy harnessed by the built-in solar panel. What other environmentally friendly Halloween stuff can you think of which would make great additions to this list?

RedHalo from the UK has thought of an ingenious method to help you learn by using the hugely successful Nintendo DS platform. It allows users to access a “free, ultra-secure, Personal Learning Space”. To put it in layman’s terms, RedHalo hopes that you will be able to stop playing games (Legend of Zelda, anyone?) or take a break from surfing on your handheld to access their service. Those who sign up for the basic package (which is free) will benefit from 1GB of Personal Learning Space, while an annual fee is charge to others who want to upgrade the basic package into the Pro Edition that comes with 5 times the Personal Learning Space. Visit RedHalo for further context.

At the Asus Eee PC launch in Taipei, Asus estimated that 200k units of the low-priced computer ($199 and above) would be sold this quarter and 3 million next year. The real news was that Asus intended to have a Windows XP version, after saying for a long time that Linux was the only option. Asus believes in that the Eee line could be as much as 20% of the global laptop sales by 2010.
It might be marketed as a laptop for “Women and Kids” (Asus, should real men buy an Alienware?), but (I don’t know why, but) I want the 1GB+8GBSDD version!
HighlightsLanguages: Chinese (trad+simp), Enlish. Upcoming: French, German and Italian OS: Linux or Windows ($30 more)

Not really in the consumer electronics, this ZiloPop could quickly bubble up to the top. According to the manufacturer/seller:
• “Smell Killer Zilopop removes even the strongest bad breath.” • “This breath deodorizer works the same as any lollipop, with different results.” Err… if someone out there tried it, can you post a comment? If it does, that’d be a killer swag for all the tech conferences.

For those who are still hooked onto ciggies, how about picking up this rather fancy-looking cigarette extinguisher? It features a rather attractive female (if she were alive) with her mouth wide open, where all you need to do is stick the butt into her mouth in order to extinguish it, lest the office fire alarm catches you in the act. Most people will probably think of this as demeaning to the fairer sex, but I guess there will always be advocates for such hilarious products. This wide-mouthed cigarette extinguisher retails for approximately $3.30 after conversion. Careful about clicking on the link though, as it is NSFW.

LG will soon launch its R200 dual LCD notebook, making it a first from the Korean company. The R200’s unique specification empowers users to control various entertainment functions such as MP3 playback, photo viewing and even enjoying some mini games over the 2.5″ external LCD monitor without having to boot up. The internal display ain’t too hot though, measuring a mere 12.1″, which means it will be an extremely portable notebook due to its size. Other features include 2GB of RAM, 1GB Turbo memory, and a super multi drive that accompanies a $2,500 price tag. It will launch in Korea on October 17th (tomorrow).
