Asus embeds software in ROM
October 11th, 2007
Asus has released its new concept known as Hardware for Webware, embedding a tiny Linux distro complete with FireFox and Skype installed within the ROM, taking a mere 15 seconds to send you surfing on the Internet from the computer’s off status. Even better is the fact that this OS does not have any access to the system’s hard drive(s) at all, virtually eliminating worries about spreading viruses and spyware. Unfortunately, this rather brilliant idea isn’t too common as it is currently built into higher end motherboards. Perhaps sometime in the near future, manufacturing costs would’ve come down to make this Hardware for Webware a reality across every single motherboard sold.
