Fujitsu launched its Flepia e-reader prototype that comes in a couple of flavors - 8″ and 12″ displays. Both of them will feature touchscreen capability for easy navigation, while the displays feature 4,096 colors in XGA resolution (768 x 1,024). Too bad the color count is so low as I would have preferred at least 65k in this day and age. Ah well, I guess battery life has something to do with it in the end, since the optional 8-color spec is capable of giving you up to 50 hours’ worth of runtime. You can store content on an SD memory card, and to give you an idea on what an electronic tome this would make, a 4GB SD card can hold up to 5,000 average length novels. Now that’s a whole lot of books to read. I wonder if jails around the country could furnish prisoners with one of these so they can better spend their time reading instead. No word on this 12mm thin e-reader though, but it can’t quite come out fast enough.

After a short teaser, Sprint has released the details of the Sprint Rumor messaging phone. Designed by LG, this phone aims to be an affordable texting phone. It will be available for $80 (with a 2yr service contract and after rebate) and unlimited SMS plans start at $10 for individuals and $20 for families, which can be pretty good if there are a couple of teenagers in the house. The full QWERTY keyboard ensures that typing can be done comfortably and we agree: that’s an essential feature for any text device. The “Rumor” phone is also loaded with a GPS navigation software, although it wasn’t clear if it uses assisted-GPS or a real GPS receiver.

Adding 18 and 24 carat gold plating on a phones might bump social status for select users, given that cellphone design is certainly more important than features in the RAZR2 market. It’s nice, and we think that it even beats our RAZR Dolce Gabana. This golden RAZR2 is guaranteed to be a conversation starter. Available in Q4.
PS: if you can bare the thought of having a non-gold plated phone, you might be interested in Winning a RAZR2– check it out.

Sony Ericsson releases their first Bluetooth Speaker with enough battery life to play music for five hours on a single charge. The sound is supposedly good and powerful, but we’d have to hear it for ourselves before we can confirm that. Obviously, the design of this device is the most interesting part I personally like it a lot because the black, mat finish makes it look solid. Finally, it comes with a carrying bag and in if you wonder, it works with most Bluetooth phones.
Sony Ericsson has designed interesting Buetooth devices in the past, such as the ROB-1 Motion Camera, or the caller-ID enabled MBW-150 Bluetooth Watch.

It looks like Internet2* has been getting a 10X boost. The boost affects “network capacity”, or how much traffic the network can handle, not the speed of individual connections. This has been made possible by using 10 colors (or wavelength) to transmit data as light over fiber-optics. Previously a single color was used. Yes, that sounds like “Duh, what didn’t they do that before?”, but I’m sure that the implementation is a nightmare. The fastest consumer internet connection that we know of reaches 100 mbps.
*Internet2 is a network run by Level-3 communications and is not accessible to the public. It is used to connect researchers and universities.

We posted about the Sony Ericsson W910 before, but Sony Ericsson just sent the official PR to announce that The W910i will be in stores this month. The Sony Ericsson W910i lets you control your music stored in the 1GB Memory Stick Micro by using motion (“Shake Control”). It comes in several colors, with matching accessories and I expect the Sony Ericsson W910i to be a solid performer. Quite frankly, I know very few people who will actually listen to music using their Walkman phones, but I recommended the Walkman series to several friends who were looking for a good “no-nonsense” phone with a good battery life and decent Bluetooth support.

Linden lab has inked a deal with Korean company T-entertainment to run Second Life in Korea. A move to Korea is quite logical as it is one of the most (broadband) connected country in the world. I’m curious to see if the low-quality of Second Life’s graphics is going to be an issue in Korea. Competitors have been licensing high-profile 3D-engines such as Crytek’s Cry-Engine that powers the awesome-looking Crysis game. I mean, you can’t have crappy graphics forever.
It has been speculated by analysts that Second Life might be at the peak of its “hype” and critics claimed that users were spending merely minutes per month on the service, something that the company strongly denied.

Clarion is a name synonymous with great sounding audio, especially in vehicles and the company hopes to brighten up your day by delivering car radios that come in a variety of uplifting colors to choose from. The three new car radios are the DUB275MP, DFZ675MC, and DMZ375. It will come in white, black and blue, and grey and blue colors respectively. Specifications for all three are pretty similar, sharing 4 x 50W, a USB port, an SD memory card slot, as well as the option to throw in a Bluetooth dongle for you to stream your audio wirelessly from a Bluetooth-enabled device such as a cellphone. Looks pretty far out in terms of color to me - it is definitely a refreshing change from boring old black that we’re accustomed to.

Now the TouchPal is certainly an exception to the rule, where cheap things aren’t good and good things aren’t cheap. In fact, the TouchPal is so cheap, it is practically free! That’s right - you don’t need to fork out a single cent for this on-screen keyboard that comes equipped with an excellent predictive text system while allowing you to sweep in the direction of the letter you need. Even frequently used punctuation like periods and commas ought not daunt you, as a simple sweep of your finger will do the trick. For those who want something with a brand name attached to it, I guess they’ll just have to wait for the HTC Touch virtual keyboard instead. In the meantime, just check out how fast you can type with TouchPal in the video above.
