Japanese get Wii Fit this holiday season

Japanese get Wii Fit this holiday season

There is no way that Nintendo will forgo the lucrative holiday season without launching their highly anticipated game, Wii Fit, for the Nintendo Wii. It will hit retail stores in Japan from December 1st onwards, retailing for $75. The higher than normal price is due to the inclusion of a pressure-sensing mat known as the Wii Balance Board that is capable of sensing motion. This unique gaming peripheral will enable players to perform previously unheard of activities, such as “heading” virtual soccer balls as well as experience ski jumping in the living room itself. The Wii Balance Board has also been touted to be compatible with yoga and aerobics as well. Nintendo has underlined the importance of the Wii Fit title as it will spearhead their vision of expanding the definition of videogames and its user base. For those living in other parts of the world, you’ll just have to wait until 2008 instead.

Binibottle design is revolutionary

Binibottle design is revolutionary

The Binibottle was thoughtfully designed with a twist cap on top as well as a sunken twist cap on the side, allowing its owner to fill ‘er up in a horizontal position. For those who wonder what difference does that make, let’s just say you have probably never attempted to fill a water bottle in a shallow sink or drinking fountain before. With the Binibottle’s design, you can kiss goodbye to awkward angles at the drinking fountain while replenishing your water supply. What’s even more interesting is, the Binibottle was created by 15-year old Anna Axelsson. You can pick up this bottle for approximately $5 at Swedish sporting good stores.

Ahrend 750 Office Furniture

Ahrend 750 Office Furniture

The Ahrend 750 Office Furniture is pretty unique since it features automatic height adjustment that has been long overdue in offices worldwide. After all, not every is of a certain height, so depending on the person’s physical stature, the standard office desk might end up being a pretty uncomfortable place to work at. The Ahrend 750 series allows you to adjust the height of your desk at the touch of a button, where a simple LCD display shows a numerical reading of the current setting, allowing you to adjust the desk back to its original height before you tweaked it. I wonder how much noise it makes during adjustments - imagine a whole cubicle farm lowering or increasing the height of their desks simultaneously!

British troops to get free WiFi

British troops to get free WiFi

Soldiers from Britian who are currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan will soon be able to take advantage of free WiFi connectivity in their barracks, enabling them to keep in touch with home using Skype as well as other instant messaging programs. This project will be known as Project Mercury and ought to roll out sometime next spring. Word has it that these computers are hard wired, but supply is pretty limited since the ratio currently stands at one computer to 70 troops. Hopefully Project Mercury will reduce the ratio to one to 50, with the WiFi network bringing the number down even further to one to 25. Not only that, more phone lines will be installed and each soldier will receive half an hour’s worth of free calls to anywhere in the world every week.

Wii owners share their special moments

Wii owners share their special moments

It can be said that all Wii owners has a special Wii story to share with the world, and hence Nintendo has set up MyWiiStory.com for Wii owners (in addition to their family and friends) to share real-life anecdotes on how Wii has changed their social dynamic or even their opinions about video games. Everyone is invited to post (unless you’re a Martian), and so far a wide demographic ranging from people of every age range and gender have already posted anecdotes, photos and videos of their experiences with Wii. Some of the more touching stories include Diana de Avila who is suffering from multiple sclerosis - she mentioned “As a woman with multiple sclerosis, I have found that playing the Wii has offered me both a chance to use my body and my mind. I’ve recommended it to other MSers on one of my Web sites. I think it is just a phenomenal way to exercise and play.” What are you waiting for? Go share your Wii story today!

Street View gets half dozen more cities

Street View gets half dozen more citiesIf you’re a bit miffed that Google Maps did not include your city in the new Street View 3D world, fret not. The company that does no evil has just expanded its list of cities by another half dozen, letting residents, visitors, and onlookers view Chicago, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Tucson, and Philadelphia in full 3D glory. Google even went the extra mile by throwing in a new “pan up” feature to most cities, enabling them to swing the virtual camera towards the sky, peering at skyscrapers and rooftops that are within the vicinity. This is definitely one of the more interesting time wasters at the office other than pr0n.

Silent Guardian Ray Gun

Silent Guardian Ray GunRaytheon’s new weapon, the Silent Guardian, is capable of inflicting serious pain on its targets without leaving any trace or marks behind. It does this by focusing a beam of “millimeter-wave” energy that produces a pain not even the depths of hell can offer, causing targeted individuals to instinctively flee or take cover. Even then, the ray penetrates the skin only to 1/64th of an inch without causing any permanent damage. This weapon has a range of over 250 meters, and it looks as though this could be a rather effective anti-crowd weapon without causing any casualties. Hopefully there’ll be support groups set up for victims who have felt the burning sensation and can’t get it out of their minds even after a long while.

VTech LS5145 wireless phone

The VTech LS5145 cordless phone for the home relies on the new 5.8GHz Digital Spread Spectrum in order to keep in touch with your friends and family, boasting a new design and functionality that will surely raise the bar in what is a pretty niche market. You also get Bluetooth connectivity thrown into the fray, letting you make and receive both cellular and landline calls on the LS5145 alone - making this the first of its kind from VTech. It will take over the i5871 in terms of product hierarchy, featuring a sleek, thin-flowing handset and base station and a metallic and high-gloss black finish. The VTech LS5145 will retail for $149.95. More specifications are available after the jump.

PhotoVu software supports large drives

PhotoVu software supports large drives

PhotoVu software has been given an update, and this time it is capable of displaying high resolution digital camera images including snapshots of the 21.1 megapixel camera from Canon. In addition, this software update includes 160GB hard drive support for standalone play, which means you can basically spend hours in front of it viewing photo after photo without seeing the same image twice since 160GB can hold a massive amount of images. This release is also accompanied by new features and enhancements which can only be found in PhotoVu’s line of digital photo frames. These photo frames have certainly grown much larger in time, where the 17″, 19″, and 22″ models retail for $900, $1,100, and $1,300 respectively.
