British troops to get free WiFi

Soldiers from Britian who are currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan will soon be able to take advantage of free WiFi connectivity in their barracks, enabling them to keep in touch with home using Skype as well as other instant messaging programs. This project will be known as Project Mercury and ought to roll out sometime next spring. Word has it that these computers are hard wired, but supply is pretty limited since the ratio currently stands at one computer to 70 troops. Hopefully Project Mercury will reduce the ratio to one to 50, with the WiFi network bringing the number down even further to one to 25. Not only that, more phone lines will be installed and each soldier will receive half an hour’s worth of free calls to anywhere in the world every week.
