The Honda CRX is a venerable sports car of sorts, and word on the street has it that the Honda CR-Z concept will be released as a replacement. This next-generation lightweight sports car boasts Honda’s very own gas-electric hybrid system that achieves both clean performance and a high level of torque. It shares the familiar glass rear end of the CRX profile, and the name CR-Z itself stands for ‘Compact Renaissance Zero’ - an expression intended to capture the idea of a renaissance in the design of compact cars that begins anew from fundamentals. Looks like a real sweet ride - hopefully it’ll able to move into production sooner rather than later.

Oregon Scientific is famous for their line of weather prediction devices, and the latest in a long list of them is the Weather In Motion. This device does the usual such as displaying the current time and day of the week in large digits so that even the oldest person in the house will be able to tell the time and keep track of each day. Whenever you approach the unit, the integrated motion sensor will automatically shift to a more detailed display consisting of a smaller time readout, more precise weather information and a trend indicator. Alternatively, you can always set the Weather In Motion to a continuous scrolling mode that displays different information every 5 seconds. It syncs to U.S. or European Atomic Clocks, adjusting itself for the new Daylight Savings Time standards so you have the most accurate time representation at home. The Weather In Motion retails for $65, although online retailer Oregon Gadgets is selling it below $50.

If you’re curious as to how the Butterfly UMPC (better known as the Samsung SPH-9200) opens up, check out the video above that was shot at GITEX 2007 in Dubai. This UMPC is highly desirable considering the features crammed inside, and it also doubles up as a Bluetooth handset that sports 3G connectivity, keeping you hooked up to the Internet under most circumstances. I like the way the entire thing opens and closes in one seamless motion. The way the keyboard opens up is definitely worth watching, and it certainly makes me more sure on what I want this year. Santa, you hear that? I’ve been a good boy!

Unless you love your job, getting up in the morning to join everyone else in the rat race is a chore. Not with the Lightning Alarm Clock though, as this device is almost guaranteed to get you out of your bed as soon as possible. The clock itself is nothing much to look at, but the upper half is where all the action’s at. You get a glass tube that arches across the top housing a Tesla coil. When the alarm is activated, the Tesla coil will go into action. While it might not zap any GDI forces in the vicinity, the sound and light affair ought to be more than adequate to get you out of bed to turn the thing off. It is powered by a single AA battery and has to hooked up to a nearby power outlet before it does its thing. The Lightning Alarm Clock can be yours today for $59.95.

Just when you scoff at those in the HD DVD camp about their choice of format while you stay on the (apparently) superior Blu-ray camp. Unfortunately, your choice of format has suffered a recent feedback with two recent high-profile Blu-ray movie releases (”Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” or “Day After Tomorrow”) being tarnished by widespread complaints about playback glitches. These glitches include the disc not playing at all, some degree of stuttering, or even spewing out of error messages. Heck, some players might even take many minutes just to load the movie. The main suspected culprit is currently the new copy protection system that has been included on both discs, but don’t rule other causes out just yet. Hopefully the manufacturers will rush on firmware updates to overcome this problem soonest possible.

VIA has released its vm7700 VESA-mounted computer that will change the way you look at a standard display panel, since it is capable of turning one of those into a fully functional PC for signage, kiosk, and other intelligent display applications. The impact is tremendous, as you get to manage your space much better in a more cost effective and flexible manner. This VIA offering leverages the industry standard VESA 10cm x 10cm mounting specification, making it simple to attach one of these behind the customer’s screen of choice. You can choose from various fanless configurations such as a 1.0GHz VIA C7 or 1.5GHz VIA Eden ULV processor as well as the ultra low power VIA CX700M2 system media processor. Power consumption is minimal at just 12 watts, emitting a low 45ºC thermal envelope. No idea on how much one of these cost though.

Fujitsu has long catered for business users where their notebooks are concerned, but the LifeBook V1010 does otherwise by targeting the more casual computer user. Don’t expect specifications that blow the mind as it will be powered by a mere Intel Pentium 1.86GHz dual core processor, 1GB RAM, and a 120GB hard drive. You can also choose from a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo version if you’re looking for improved performance. Thrown into the Lifebook V1010 is also WiFi connectivity and the choice between Windows Vista Business or XP Professional where the operating system is concerned. The Fujitsu LifeBook V1010 will retail from $799 upwards. Shipping begins today.

Hitachi recently paraded its concept remote control at CEATEC 2007 Japan that comes in a variety of colors and looks more like some space-age computer peripheral instead of being a remote. There is a huge trackball right smack in the middle, while the “back” button is the only other button on it. Guess the user interface will have to be a killer in order to take advantage of such a simple remote control design. I wonder where the mute button is on this thing though.
