The JVC XA-AW33 audio player was paraded at the recently concluded CEATEC Japan 2007 event, boasting waterproof capability as well as a form factor that floats. Guess this automatically qualifies it as a bathroom device, allowing you to chill to your favorite tunes when lounging in a bathtub. It weighs 260 grams and features a special speaker designed by NXT , a UK-based Technology & Licensing company. No idea on what type of file formats the JVC XA-AW33 supports, but it can be yours today for approximately $170 after conversion.

Don’t be too happy with the news of a cheaper 40GB PS3 hitting the European market for €399 - this is but a crippled model. It comes with half the amount of USB ports (normally numbering four), lacks multi-memory ports, and is not backwards compatible with the PS2 in any way whatsoever. The last exclusion is extremely puzzling, especially when it is software emulation that does the dirty work. Would you pick up the 40GB model this October 10th if you were residing in Europe?

Most of us know the pride and joy of purchasing a brand new phone, but that feeling is often accompanied by dreaded knowledge that your phone will one day experience its first drop. The SaY phone concept could soothe those fears if it was actually sent into production, boasting a rubberized exterior that makes it impervious to drops and bumps. Features include a 4 megapixel camera as well as a pair of stereo speakers to annoy everyone with your latest MP3 ringtone. Any idea on whether such a concept would take off? I suppose you could always get one of those silicone or rubber cases for your phone instead of waiting for this to be produced.

Mario and Luigi hit the greens this time instead of stomping on Goombas. Each of them are connected to a remote that resembles the classic Nintendo Famicom controller, allowing you to control their swing as you attempt to hit that elusive hole-in-one. Buttons A and B handle the swing, while the rest are just there for cosmetic purposes. The golf balls are extremely small, and you can keep yourself occupied by trying to putt these balls into a tiny green “hole”. Each figure stands at 3″ in height and aren’t powered by mushrooms but a couple of AAA batteries instead. The Mini Golfing Mario & Luigi set retails for $24.99 and will probably cause you more white hair out of frustration than your work.

I guess notebook batteries aren’t the only products to experience a recall, as the Razor E300 line of electric scooters have now been recalled by the manufacturer due to faulty welds on the handlebars which could end up with them snapping off. Doesn’t sound too good, eh, since you could end up with a rather nasty injury while riding one of these things. In the meantime, it would be wise to check with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for futher details concerning this recall. It affects products with barcodes beginning in 100620-03 through -09 only, and there are currently approximately 20,000 of those around in the market.

Now here’s something mediocre - the Siren DP350 portable media player doesn’t boast sterling performance and will probably be the average Joe in school whom nobody notices if it were human. Features include a 1.8″ 65k color LCD display, support for popular lossy audio formats including MP3, WMA (DRM10), Ogg Vorbis, and AAC (unprotected), video and image playback in MPEG-4, WMV, JPG, and BMP file formats. It also comes with an integrated FM radio, a built-in microphone, and voice recording capability. I don’t really like such a small screen size though - it is definitely way too hard on the eyes and I will most probably end up with a permanent squint instead.

Talk about getting the boys all worked up this holiday season with the Battling Palmsize Havoc Helicopter. Each purchase comes with a couple of helicopters (won’t be fun flying all by yourself now, would it?), allowing you and a friend to fight it out “laser tag” style be it at home or at the office. Shoulder buttons on the remote are used to fire at your opponent’s copter, where a hit would then result in the victim’s copter to spin out of control, crash landing in the vicinity. They’re built to last, so just try to avoid having these crash into some really expensive porcelain vases or mugs of steaming hot coffee. Powered by half a dozen AA batteries, the Battling Palmsize Havoc Helicopter retails for $99.

Freecom has released a USB flash drive that comes in a credit card form factor, and this time it is extremely skinny, touted by Freecom themselves to be the slimmest USB flash memory device in the world. While nobody has disputed that claim yet, you can be sure that it will fit into any wallet gracefully without adding in unnecessary bulk. Each of these cards come with a USB connector that clicks inside the card when not in use, boasting password protection and encryption software. Strange to see Freecom manufacture 256MB versions of these, although you can always pick up the largest of the lot (4GB) for 69.99 Euros.

The NEC FieldAnalyst Camera definitely gives me the creeps as it is able to analyze passers-by based on their looks alone. Guess this is one camera that judges the book by its cover, capable of determining one’s gender and approximate age after taking your dressing into account. The creators are currently developing an application that sorts out exactly where you stand in the social hierarchy - I suppose this is where the saying “clothes make the man” holds true. It costs a whopping $19,000 for this - any idea how you’re going to use it? One thing I know is this - car salespeople already have this innate ability as they know for sure whether you can afford that Porsche the moment you step foot into their showroom.

Asus has now expanded their line of products with PCI-E and USB versions of the Xonar, an add-on audio peripheral for computers. The Xonar DX2 is a PCI-E version that targets both hardcore PC gamers as well as home theater buffs. Features include translating DirectX surround-sound and hardware-accelerated audio processing to the DS3D GX extension of the Xonar D2X driver. This results in Windows Vista-powered gamers to frag in style without losing Direct3D or EAX audio mid-game. There is no need for special installation or specific support from game developers, so it works right out of the box. It boasts a dynamic range of 118 db across all 7.1 channels, supports Dobly and DTS and on-card digitizing of analog audio sources. The Xonar U1 boasts nearly same capabilities, catering for notebook users instead. Pricing and availability of both are currently unknown.
