Sony Denies, then Announces 40GB PS3

The word on the street was on the spot on this upcoming 40GB Playstation 3. Sony Europe has just announced it: “We have a brand new 40 GB machine that represents an excellent entry point into the world of high definition games and movies, and we have the fully featured 60GB machine being offered with two next-generation gaming experiences at a highly competitive price.” (David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe - SCEE).

Just yesterday Sony said that no press conference was scheduled for next week, dashing the hopes of millions – but they were right! the announcement wasn’t for next week, it was for today. Anyhow, most consumer electronics companies should change the way they handle public relations (PR). I mean one they stuff the channels with a new model they know that the information will leak, so why not handle it properly? It’s obvious that even based on rumors, customers will wait for the cheaper model.
