Official: Microsoft spins Bungie out
October 5th, 2007
It’s official, Microsoft has announced that Bungie the company behind the HALO franchise will be spun off to be a (more?) independent entity. Microsoft will keep significant interests in the company of course. Without first-hand insider information, it’s hard to tell what really happened, but my sources tell me that it is possible that Bungie wants to develop games for other platforms as well, or it is possible that Bungie would prefer to keep its own corporate culture. In the meantime, HALO has grossed about 300M and has spurred sales of Xbox 360 consoles and subscriptions to Xbox Live. That’s another proof that in the console space, it’s all about the games – not the specs.
