Soldiers sustained by sun

Soldiers sustained by sunNot in terms of food, but more of their gear. Australian grunts are now starting to wear solar panels as part of their uniform, hoping that this would in the long run reduce the amount of weight they carry as most of their gear require a considerable amount of energy to run. The Australian government has so far splashed out £1 million to develop a 14 ounce solar panel which is said to be effective even on cloudy days, courtesy of its ability to draw power from solar radiation instead of mere light. Definitely sounds like a big improvement for any foot soldier as the dead weight of batteries are lifted off their shoulders.

i-SOBOT reviewed

Move over, Robosapien, there a new guy in town and he’s by far more entertaining. Now here’s a pretty comprehensive review of the i-SOBOT, one of the many mechanized toys that are set to rivet the attention of kids when Christmas season rolls around. This tiny robot that could is powered by a trio of AAA batteries and features four modes of operation - remote-control, voice command, special action, and pre-programmed. All these can be accessed via the controller, and commands are issued at the push of a button. The i-SOBOT is smart enough to react up to 10 voice commands and will be able to elicit a laugh from everyone by performing one of its many entertaining routines such as a tropical dance or matrial arts. You’ll be able to view more of the i-SOBOT here, here, and here.

Sony to sell 11-inch OLED TVs

Sony to sell 11-inch OLED TVs

Sony will be putting up its diminutive 11″ OLED TV for sale from December onwards, featuring a panel that comes with 960 x 540 resolution. Best of all is, this is thinner than any other TV you’ve ever laid your eyes upon (slimmer than even those highly touted Ultra Slim Edition II handsets) - measuring a mere 3mm in thickness. Features include integrated digital TV tuners, an HDMI input, USB and Ethernet plugs. Do you think an 11″ display warrants to be called a TV, or is it just a mini monitor? The jury’s still out on this one, but one thing’s for sure - this Sony OLED TV ought to come with the label “Keep out of reach of children”.

Backup Pal keeps data safe

Backup Pal keeps data safe

Data loss is an extremely stressful situation to encounter with, but the Backup Pal helps alleviate the experience of losing all your contacts along with your cellphone by keeping a copy for future reference. You don’t even need to have a computer to act as the middleman - all you need to do is hook up your cellphone to the Backup Pal, press a button, and let the program run by itself. The Backup Pal comes with a choice between serial port and USB port connections, where the former retails for $40 while the latter costs an additional $10. Alternatively, there is always the $20 USB Phonebook Flasher.

GG Disney Mobile

GG Disney MobileThe House of Mouse has announced that Disney Mobile will cease to operate by the end of this year. This means subscribers to Disney Mobile will be able to use this service until December 31, although a reimbursement and porting program will be announced by October 8th. In addition, the Walt Disney Internet Group is currently looking for other carriers to take up its Family Center features. Not too sure how that will develop as both Sprint and Verizon already offer similar programs.

This new appliance from Whirlpool not only keeps things inside cool and fresh, the integrated expresso maker would go a long way in helping you face the work week with your daily dose of caffeine. The refrigerator section is said to feature Whirlpool’s uniqe 6th sense (I see rotten food) technology that brings the ultimate in fridge-freezer performance, keeping food fresher and longer without compromising on hygiene. Ultimate cellphone concept

Ultimate cellphone conceptMia Kim from Popgadget has requested for a condom dispenser to be included in her dream cellphone that targets females, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Other goodies include a vibrator, a corkscrew to get that bottle of bubbly opened, an atomizer, and a home pregnancy test. I think she forgot to include a taser of some sort to keep those weirdos at bay. Would the fifth iteration of the iPhone finally include all those Holy Grail materials? Only time will tell, but my money’s against it.

Vivitar 7500i camera draped in gold

Vivitar 7500i camera draped in goldLooks like gold is the name of the game these days, as Vivitar’s new 7500i Limited Edition digital camera comes coated with it. Underneath the bling exterior you’ll find a 7 megapixel CCD, 3x optical and 5x digital zoom, a 3″ LCD display, VGA recording at up to 720 × 480 resolution, and an SD memory card slot. It is extremely lightweight too, weighing in at a mere 4 ounces (exclusing the battery and SD card of course). Other than capture pictures, the Vivitar 7500i also supports MP3 playback as an alternative choice of entertainment. No idea on pricing, but you can also drop some dollars for the black version of the same camera in the near future.

Falcon Xbox 360 rumors

Falcon Xbox 360 rumors

Have rumors materialized into fact? It seems that the Falcon Xbox 360 is finally available, so having a 65nm processor in your Xbox 360 ought to go a long way in avoiding the dreaded RROD situation that original 360 owners were faced with. Guess those price cuts surely had something to do this cheaper manufacturing process. Well, what are you waiting for - get your more stable Xbox 360 already if you haven’t, and pick up a copy of Halo 3 while you’re at it eh?

MacBook Pro plated in gold

MacBook Pro plated in gold

Computer Choppers has introduced a new gold plated MacBook Pro, and this will only be a one-off unit. This company also offers a wide variety of laptop customization options, so you need not concentrate on just the Apple logo itself. Pricing varies depending on the level of customization, but a ballpark figure for coating your MacBook Pro in 24kt gold would range between $1,200 to $1,500. That’s some serious coin involved, but think about the envious stares that would come your way whenever you pull this out at Starbucks!
